just wondering why saints supporters decided to boo leon davis last night?? honestly, not taking a swipe at all u guys, but to those who did, why?? it was a real nice way to marginilise him after he tried to stand up for is race. your president even praised him largely and how would u enjoy it happening to one of the clarke's or murray?? just curious

Neon Leon cries -
Don't racially abuse me,
But we don't forget what Nicky copped,
At Vic Park in '93!

so u's were basicly bagging him coz his black? hmm lets see the number of players u should be bagging on ur own side as well then

Anybody who booed him is an idiot. Anybody that supports or agrees with booing is also an idiot.

That's far too simplistic Fred. While I'm not a fan of Rex Hunt and had no inclination to join in with the boo boys, it's obvious that those of our supporters who were booing Leon were simply making it known that they weren't supportive of the public shame that Rex went through for what was a clear slip of the tongue.

Pocketrocket, if you inferring that Davis was being booed because he is an aboriginal then you are the idiot. As Figjam mentioned there is no parallel between last night and that afternoon back in 1993.

Welcome to the Saints board anyway Fred. Nice for the moderator to post occassionally.

A slip of the tongue it most certainly was, but a racial slip it was also. Leon had an absolute right to ask whichever questions he had to ask.

Don't think you're ******** doesn't stink in terms of race just because of what happened to Nicky Windmar. We've practically just snuck out of a very dark period of racism. Crowd comments when I was growing up were 180 degrees from todays relatively sanitised crowd, and this was from ALL clubs, including yours!!

i had some around me who were doing it, and throwing barbs at him, I thought it was in very very poor taste, I didn't agree with the way leon delt with the situation, but it's not up to us to tell him how to feel. However i didn't hear it generally from the crowd, maybe some were booing him for the very reason many pies fans boo milne, it's just a general hatered for small forwards..it's quite odd really but we just can't help it..they are so annoying!

Players get booed at games all the time when they don't deserve it. Bulldogs supporters around me were giving Ling hell yesterday for no reason whatsoever other than him being a champion.
Leon Davis is a proffesional athlete and I'm sure he hasnt thought twice about it since the final siren.

I BOO ex saints players Fred ie spider the moneyhungry dog, BBBBBH the moneyhungry dog, plugger the moneyhungry dog and Knobel the notalent dog and i am not an idiot.

maybe I just don't understand but I boo'ed him out of respect for the Aboriginals that had to put up with REAL racism not this mountain out of a mole stuff

Who said it was Saints supporters booing him. I have heard Flth supporters abuse him in the past.

what basicly getting cooled a black dog isnt enough for u? what a tool u r ur one of the ********ers that needs there head looked at or belted which ever is easier.

Who really cares if leon got booed... didn't seem to bother him, i thought he was one of the best players collingwood had out there.

Im all for anything that gets the crowd involved.. booing or cheering its just what happens when your playing infront of a packed stadium. Im sure the crowd wasn't taking a personal attack at leon but were more than likely just getting involved in the game.
And speaking for the majority of the afl fans i think everyone was sick off hearing about the subject when in most people's opinions theres was not a weeks worth of coverage in it! Seeing eddy on every second show is enough without having to see a small slip of the toungue made into a top story.

oh please, don't give me that.
Rex Hunt's was a slip of the tongue and the whole incident was blown out of proportion much like that Akermanis thing where he said the monkey's upstairs (meaning management) and it was interpreted the other way round.

Rex Hunt tried to apologize IMMEDIATELY and he was shot down.

Nicky Winmar was abused and called every obscenity there is about a person's race at vic park in 93... that's real racism and was a trooper to deal with it the way he did

Thousands of stories exist of b4 the 1960s were club trainers wouldn't even work on aboriginals coz of their race

guys like Winmar, Long, Kickett etc had real problems to deal with

can u compare what they had to go through to a guy who's endured a slip of the tongue and been apologized IMMEDIATELY. What kind of an idiot would make a racial slurr on purpose in this day and age.

Leon made a mountain out of a mole

Deal with it

perhaps leon didnt enjoy the extent of publicity either, did u ever think of that?? the fact that he didnt immediately accept the apology and wanted to ask some questions and get some clarification alone dont amount to grandstanding. i completely agree that racist comments in this day and age are nothing like 20 or 30 years ago, but times change and in this modern climate calling someone a black dog is big, slip of the tongue as it might have been (which i totally believe). my point was, that the whole issue was in a way related to the mistreatement of aboriginals and them being unfairly victimized, marginilised, and branded within society, and that makes the people who booed him (which im sure he would have revisited after the siren sounded in his mind) 100 times worse than rex hunt

I don't disagree with you on that.

I did take exception to the suggestion made in the first post of his thread that the booing was racially motivated. Obviously I can't talk for all of those people but I'm sure in most cases it was more out of respect to Rex Hunt who many felt was treated harshly for a slip of the tongue.

Like you say the mistake did have racial connatations so Leon had every right to ask questions.

The Nicky Winmar incident at Victoria Park was unique because it was when a player stood up to the hundreds of opposition supporters that were racially abusing him and said enough was enough. Likewise any player that racially abuses an opposition player should be dealt with extremely harshly. In this instance a commentator was hung out to dry by the media for confusing his words. I just happen to think there is a difference between the two incidents but I accept that Leon has every right to seek answers.

I didn't hear any booing for Leon at the game, so maybe it was only a small section, maybe it's just paranoia???

If there was any booing on the night, it was most likely due to the jumper he was wearing and the effort the team displayed.

i think u missed the point and jumped the gun old son. so dont put words in my mouth, get on your high horse and start calling me an idiot,i was more pointing out that with the racial sensitivities of the issue it became a more personal attack on a minority figure. i never said he was booed for being black. do u believe xav clarke might think twice to standing up for himself if something similar came to fruition because he witnessed leon being booed?? quite possibly, and that is why the incident was such a shame.

i was saying Boo-urns!

not sure why people booed him - only 2 reasons why i boo players at the footy:
* If someone does a cowardly punch or nasty play
* When someone rushes a behind when there is every chance for a contest

but not for anyone's opinions.
