I have been going to the footy as a member for 14 years and I thought yesterday's game was the worst I have ever seen.I pay good money for a premium seat on a wooden bench with bolts that stick in my rear end and to see a load of crap put up by both sides yesterday was a disgrace.I appreciate we won the four points but if you can honestly say that our game is better than it used to be after watching that, then you are depriving some village of it's idiot.
Brisvegas didn't try to attack and win the game and we were so bad skill wise that it was a joke.I went to a footy match and a game of rugby league broke out!
I will stop going if this crap continues!

Wow one game and it's all doom and gloom. It was plain obvious the players didn't have that ruthlessness and decided to play the play Brisbane wanted to. Still a learning curve, 18 or so players were below their best clearly. Brown only had 3 possesions. It was that sort of game. Move on and prepare for friday night..

More boring than being smashed by Melbourne Richmond?
For **ck sake grow up, we won an ugly game that we normally roll over in ,a win is a win and if we manage to win another 15 ugly games I for one will be over the moon

you'd think from the sooknami that we'd lost. people are telescoping onto individual errors when very few of the entire 44 could hold their heads up high.

I couldn't go yesterday, watching the replay now and there is no way we were to blame for the quality of the game. Brisbane should be ashamed of themselves, pathetic attitude.

We can blame ourselves for our poor skill level that didn't enable us to take advantage of all the forward pressure.

the contest is the entertainment. if you go out with the goal to entertain, you end up with WWF. but if you go out to create the contest, you create entertainment by dint of it. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, especially not if the determination and skill level of the contestants are down or mismatched.

It takes 2 to tango. Brisbane didn't want to open it up because they knew we would ****ing slaughter them.

Perhaps it's time to grow a football brain and learn to appreciate the finer aspects of football.

If we kicked a couple of extra goals instead of behinds, I don't think you'd have a problem. Heh.

It wont be anywhere as boring a game next week as it was in the first 2 rounds for Freo. Brisbane played keepy off. Kick the ball backward and sideward and not take on our zone. They were too negative to even kick it into their forward 50 so it's hard for me to blame Freo for the boring game that it was.

When a team (Geelong etc..) plays attacking football against Freo you see a great game. Freo won i'm happy and bring on the Saints.

Then don't go.

We had a poor game, it wasn't the first (we had plenty last year) and won't be the last. Get over it.

I don't expect the players to have that intention foremost on their mind. I want to see them enjoying themselves. You pay to see someone like Lance Franklin on the attack. he's playing his natural game, entertaining us by just being himself. Coaches can stifle creativity with negative defensive emphasis..which I think Ross Lyon is one.

well, thanks for the uninformed thoughts, but lyon hasn't done too much of that since his move west. our other games have been free flowing and the shitness of the lions game was only in response to the game style predicated by the lions, which in all likelihood, was orchestrated by mark harvey who knew he had to bring something to stem our movement. pity the lions supporters if that's the style of play they're going to take against every fast-breaking team.

Bingo!

Brisbane basically shut up shop the very second the ball was bounced. They pushed all of their numbers back and then when they had the ball they played keepies off. Of course, they were never going to kick a winning score given their skill level and their young guys dropping off as the game wore on, but it slowed our normal running game right down and was damn effective for the most part (aided largely by our inept goal kicking and forward entries).

Obviously it's concerning that our basic skill levels plummeted as the game slowed down, and that there was a complete absence of forward structure, but it was boring football because Brisbane had a hand in dictating terms.

We have a lot to work on though. A better team would have just carved them up with slick ball movement.

Agreed :thumbsu: it's the kind of game we would have lost in the past. Would have loved to see Balentyne, Walters or Lucky Neil crumbling some of those marking contests in the forward 50 .... But meh we will have to make do with big Keps doing what he can until we can get them back on the park ;)

I'm having trouble understanding what the issue is for some folks.

Brisbane employed a flooding tactic.
After half time we had 13 scoring shots to brisbanes 5.
It was basically all freo after half time.
Did Lyon change something during the long break..?
If so that's two weeks in a row that our game plan has changed and had an impact. How many times did our game plan change last year during a game?
A good tactic against a flood is just to take every shot you can and hope for the best, forget the pretty stuff. Makes for an ugly win but that's better than a loss any day.

Brisbane employed a shitty tactic that fremantle responded to and won. It can't be pretty all the time but give me the 4 points any day over pretty.

Pretty + 4 points > ugly + 4 points > pretty + 0 points.

Only people really complaining are those that have agendas against lyon, an trolls who think because Lyon was so defensive at saints we will now be exactly the same.

Anyone with half a brain can see that yesterdays game had nothing to do with lyon an all to do with Voss shutting up shop an trying to keep the loss as small as possible.
They flooded back, then were slow to move the ball forward due to such massive flooding.

Also if they had watched any of our other games they would see we are abit better defensive structure wise, but are still very attacking.

Open your eyes an go blame Voss an Harvey
