Starc will play.

If not I'd give Bird another go before completely ruling him out. If Bancroft gets another go so does he.

Otherwise: Rest Cummins (not a fan of rotation but after 6 injury riddled years and the year and test he has had he needs a rest. He is out of gas). In: Sayers. 12th man a million times. FFS Time to play.

If we are playing 2 spinners Holland for Bird and maybe Starc for Cummins. If we do play two spinners I would be tempted to bat MMarsh at 7 just to take a little more of the pressure off of him with the bat.

If we go with 3 genuine quicks Bird gets another crack at it if any of Starc, Cummins or Hazlewood don't play for whatever reason. One bad innings isn't enough to put him to the end of the fast bowling queue.

Assuming we play a 2nd spinner Swepson in for Bird. Poms don't have a love for leg spinners and Swepson is leading Shield wicket-taker amonger the spinners. Starc for Cummins as the later might need a break. If we only go with one spinner then it's business as usual, Starc, Hazelwood, Cummins and Lyon.

Being Sydney you might think about Maxwell for M.Marsh. Not sure yet.

A second right arm offie is a bit of a waste as a second spinner though.

5th bowler who can give others a rest. Thought a spinner might be best being Sydney. That's only if we pick our regular line up of Starc, Hazelwood, Cummins and Lyon. If Starc's still out then it's just Swepson for Bird.

Spinner in for Bird. Swepson or Agar. Agar seems to be more in favour though it would be nice to see a leg spinner step out for Australia again.

If Cummins is not right, Sayers or Tremain to have a run. Even if Cummins is OK I'd be inclined to give him a break and get everyone right for South Africa now that 5-0 is off the cards. Bird's struggles in this test will hurt Sayers who is even slower.

Feels like O'Keefe is on the outer as well. Seems very unpopular amongst the cricketing hierarchy. Felt like there was a big sigh of relief in the CA corridors when he followed up that 12-for with some ordinary performances and they could quickly hurry him back down the pecking order. Not convinced he is a long term test spinner anyway.

True but him playing that Bangladesh Test surprised me.

If SOK was an off spinner he'd be no chance at all, but being a left armer works in his favour. But he hasn't done a lot in the Shield or BBL and CA have another left armer who is 9 years younger, took 7 wickets in Bangladesh and is apparently an all rounder. Agar's 33* off 21 in the BBL will have CA giddy.

It's been great to see Agar bowling with a lot of confidence this year. If they warrant a second spinner necessary for Sydney (which is a discussion much debated on each year for usually the status quo to remain) then I think he'd be well in consideration.

If Starc and Cummins aren't right I'd keep Bird. Christ he's copped some unwarranted criticism on here based on one poor innings. If Starc's okay I' go with Agar as a second spinner

Cummins gets a rest. Sick and looks jaded, could do with the nanna nap and some Shield minutes.

I'd bring in Maxwell for the second spin option in place of Dropwaja

In:
Starc
Maxwell

Out:
Cummins
Axewaja
If fit, Cummins plays. He can rest during the ODI series and remainder of the BBL, and maybe get one Shield game in before getting on the plane to South Africa. Yes, I know his injury history, and it is a dead rubber; but its still a Test match so the best available players are the ones who play.

yep

He might not be a warnie but he has delivered for decades at first class level

I don't know why CA hate him
