Arvo guys,

Just trying to get my head around this.

Looking at having a few box trifecta's on races 6 and 7 2morrow.

Looking at the TAB website to choose 8 Horses is $336. Now if I put $50 on instead then I get a % of the winnings. So 14% (round figures).

Is that all it costs me? or do I need to then put more money on the horses in the trifecta ?

thats all it costs you. thats the beauty of flexi-betting

So in a race of 8 horses I could put $50 on all those 8 horses in a Box trifecta and be sure of getting money?

well yeah you would be sure of a collect but you'd need the favourites out of the placings to get a good dividend. Look at it this way, if you're getting 14% of the dividend and you're outlaying $50 then the tri has to pay about $400 for you to profit.

Arrr yes, now it make sense. Those values are for a $1 bet. So it is 14% of the total winnings X 1 not X50 :o

Here I was thinking I have cracked onto a ripper way to win some bling.

I've only put money on horses on wins and places, so trying to move into the exotics a bit more.

Yes, but more than likely less than you put on. Were it not the case, the tab would effectively be handing out free money.

Which nags are you thinking of boxing?

Thats what I was thinking. I can see all you pros think omgzzz damn nooobs :P haha.

With the Vic derby is seems pointless putting money on WBGY, so I was thinking of trifectering him in with a few others.

Go something like 1-8/1-8-2-4-9-11-13-14/1-8-2-4-9-11-13-14

Thats what I would have gone with. But there is no point if the tri needs to pay $400 to break even. Don't really wanna spend over $50.

Thats what he's saying , he means not to box them since whobegotu is pretty much gonna win anyway.

so its 2 x 8 x 8 which is much cheaper than boxing all the 8 BUT No 1 or 8 Has to win. For $50 you would get 60% of the trif.

Or you could do the first 4 which would be 2 x 8 x 8 x 8 so youd get 12% for $50.

If you took WBGY one out, and the other 7 for second and third, for your $50 you would then return 119% on my calculations. So obviously more risky but the tri would only need to pay $42 for you to break even, which you would think it would.

Haha O i get it. That trifecta seems decent.

Thanks for being patient guys. Only moving out of a once a year type guy now!

Thoughts on this for the Mackinnon:

7-12/7-12-1-3-4-6-8-9/7-12-1-3-4-6-8-9

Roving Bankers are also a good option if you are boxing them up to get a better percentage return. Lets say you want all those 8 horses boxed, but you were sure that one of them was going to run a place. You can nominate that horse as your roving banker and the other 7 to fill the places. The one that you nominate must finish first, second or third. Then as long as your other selections fill the remaining places (which in this case they obviously would if you've taken the field), you win. Lets say you nominate the (1) horse as your roving banker. Your combination's would be:

1/2,3,4,5,6,7,8/2,3,4,5,6,7,8

2,3,4,5,6,7,8/1/2,3,4,5,6,7,8

2,3,4,5,6,7,8/2,3,4,5,6,7,8/1

As you can see, it's basic maths. You narrow down the combination's.

In this situation, for your $50 bet you would receive %39.68 instead of
%14.88.

You can nominate a maximum of two roving bankers for a trifecta.

Hope this helps:thumbsu:

There is a nice calculator here to help you work out your bets:
