Back to Bigfooty after a long stint on the sidlines since around November and getting back into Melbourne , it looked like a apocalypse had hit Visy Park. After hearing about Fevola sacked i thought that would be the most id hear of Carlton during the offseason, however there then was the Crown incident with Walker and Houlihan, The Eddie Betts incident and finally to top it off Levi Casboult getting handcuffed to a senior player and participating in drinking games in which the next day was involved in a car accident in which the other driver had died on impact. Hearing of this left my head shaking, but was glad nothing serious had happened and these things can easily have been fixed, especially with Judd at the helm of the ship.

At work now, im been getting alot of jibes over these incidents but deep down it had reminded me of some of the old days in which i was sort of proud but have realised that those days of footy are now over and that we are not only a club but a business with a variety of stakeholders in which we have failed. But enough about that, being starved off footy as made this year like no other. I have my tickets printed and ready for Thursday night at the G.

However some of crap being talked about Carlton supporters is ridicoulous. We have lost a 90+ goal kicker in Fevola and let me repeat THERE WILL BE NO QUICK FIX. We have just put ourselves back about 2 years but being a Carlton supporters in his 20yrs i can wait a little while longer. Looking at our fixture this year we will most likley not making the 8 as we will be adjusting our forward line. Unlike many other clubs were we couldve just covered this defiency with a mature player we are gonna stick by somn young kids who are gonna be 10+ year players.

Its gonna be wild year, but im gonna love watching Robinson, Russell and Kruezer take another step this year. Its gonna be a rought 2 years in which we will drop a few easy games and will struggle on many occasions against lowly placed sides, this isnt being pessimistic but realistic in which our forward line is gonna take a while of getting used to a new game plan.

Its gonna be a slow 2 years but im up for ever second of it.

sorry my apoglises
bf mustve changed over the offseason, just in the habit of bagging the first comment expecting it to be negative :)

and i am very happy that Carlton has a hand on jim buckleys son, as a few younger brothers of mine used to play with him in Ivanhoe and he is a gun but very small and very skinny
and apparently he can just get his hands on the pill, doesnt use it bad but can just get it

This forum would be rather boring if all we did was agree on everything.

While I'm nervous about the season, I'm still hopeful that we'll make the 8. Like Bluebear keeps bleating about, we've had more scoring shots than our opposition in all 4 preseason games.

We know our midfield is good enough (most weeks) to get it in there more often than the opposition.

When all fit, I truly believe we've got a very solid back six, as they showed last year (something like 3rd least points conceded prior to Waite's injury).

The forward line will obviously need some work but we don't need one player to kick 80+ goals - or even 60 for that matter. We just need a more even spread across the board, ala the Bulldogs last year.

It'll be a very interesting season to say the least and I've really got no idea what to expect. Don't think we'll finish at either end of the ladder but could really end up anywhere in between.

We will try to cover the loss with mature players in Setanta and Waite, not to mention we went after Bradshaw.

We have young players in the forward line because we are a young team - we're not Melbourne, we're not playing the kids, we will be picking the best 22 every week.

Its gonna be a rought 2 years in which...our forward line is gonna take a while of getting used to a new game plan

What new game plan do the forwards have to get use to? Having the ball kicked to them...

Our midfield will need to pick up the slack by ensuring that they are kicking it to the best option, and kicking to our forwards advantage.

Sure we will need time for everything to click before we hit our best form, but the coaching staff and players aren't working hard enough if it takes as long as you're suggesting.

Its gonna be a slow 2 years

Disagree - we're good enough for finals this year, and next year we should be pushing for a home final. That's the minimum of our expectations and capabilities, whether or not we make it is another matter.

The entire pre-season they have developed a new forward structure and hence had a now gameplan for which our midfield will have to exectute. I think it will contain a much less crowded forward line for which 'Yaz' and Eddie can crumb and weave some magic.

Fevola is a loss, and we are gonna fill up some of the gaps left by him but not all of them

It will not be done this year and next year hopefull we can be making our way up the ladder. We will be consolidating for what we did next year. If you think its gonna be done overnight your dreaming, its gonna take time.

Liked a lot of your OP but this is way off the mark. We are adding Jamison, Waite, McLean, Warnock, Henderson and Lucas to the team. Walker and Grigg are over their injury troubles, fully fit and ready to fulfill their potential and young guys like Kreuzer, Armfield, Gibbs, Hampson, Yarran, Garlett, Robinson and Joseph will be fitter, stronger and much better off after another pre-season.

Footy is a team game, we've learnt a lot about discipline and culture this year which the players will be better for and all these positives far outweigh the loss of one star player.

What hurt Carlton last year was the fact that opposition teams scored pretty easily against us, and I would hope that our defence will be stronger in 2010. Jamo has done a full pre-season, and hopefully his body can stand up to an entire season. Waite will be back, and hopefully Austin can get a run with Carlton as well.

Our midfield has been strengthened by Mclean coming to the club, Walkers return, and perhaps an injury free year to Hadley.

Our forward line will be less potent, but it will also be much less predictable, something we couldn't say last year. Our mids will still get roughly the same amount of ball they did last year, meaning our F50 entries should roughly be the same as 2009 also. We just need to take advantage of this.

We also get Warnock back, which really does add some real flexibility with our ruckmen, and could really hurt some opposition teams. All in all, we have a great deal to look forward to this year.

All those names u mentioned are good assists us in way we move the ball into teh forward 50 bar Henderson who believe me will be a very solid player but he will take time and when i say time, i mean 2-3 years

Carlton is gonna take the right way, with Fev wed be this going for a high top8 place but how long would our premiership be open for, this way we can extended it by a few years :)

Warnock back will help a lot to keep Kreuzer fresh as late last season Kreuzer looked overtired after his big workload

Agree there will be some trouble scoring against some opposition, but I think there are many teams we will score ok against.

I think we will score lower scores this year but also concede lower scores.

I am not sure how long our forwardline will take to become top 4 standard, that is the big question, it depends on how well our back line goes without Waite.

I think that our forward line will be top 8 at the end of this year and will be bordering on being top 4 next year.

It is going to take about half the year for the mids to get used to having to kick to the best option thats open rather than having to look for Fev first and then other options.

Don't forget O'Halpin, he was basically buggered for he season after Fev put his knee into his back in the 2nd Essendon game.

Not unless we recruit a proven star.

It won't need to be top 4 for us to win a premiership though - not if our midfield and defence are (which I believe they will be soon enough)

I would suggest that we are better this year in every position on the ground with the exception of Full Forward.

Blues to make the 8 for mine.

What's Austin's story? Unsighted all preseason... a worry.

Had a guard around his wrist/forearm area, so the training sessions I went to, he really only ran laps, and did a little bit of ball work. Doubt we'd see him in the Carlton team for a little while yet, just to get his match fitness up, and get some real game time under his belt.
