This is a tough one to call but I think Ebert just edges him so far.

Swift was from the 08 draft though, whereas Ward was 07.

You picked up Tony Notte with pick 20 in Ward's draft.

Fair point, I forgot about that. While I'm happy with Notte, he's a very smart forward (just needs to bulk up more), Ward will be the better player.

You've got to be kidding.

Do you always judge players based upon disposal numbers ? Some of us prefer to use our eyes. Ward is faster, cleaner, very courageous (not saying Ebert isn't), and far more damaging with his disposal.

Ward by some margin.

Ward has this one covered, bad thread.

I rated Callan Ward very highly around draft time

It is probably a bad thread because Ward had a very good last couple of weeks. Timing is everything in such polls, If the poll was started a bit earlier in the year it would have been a far more even poll you would have to think.

Note the Ebert actually had some pretty good games later in the season but were these were not in high profile games.

28 Poss in Rnd 18 against Essendon where he was close to BOG and 24 Poss in Rnd 21 when the Eagles were spanked by Adelaide as examples.

Yeah, Ebert is certainly not rubbish. He's going to be huge once he gets a pre-season under his belt. As said before, he's still recovering from that OP he had. so obviously his speed and kicking will be affected.

I really really like Ward but it's by no means fare to compare the two while one has been struck down by OP, Ebert only really showed full signs that he was over it in the last six weeks of the season, unlike Masten he did not start running with the rest of the squad in the last preseason.

I cant see how you can say Ward has had that greater impact than Ebert this season. Eberts had less inside 50's and more Goal assists, so how on earth is Ward more damaging with his disposal even with his very nice boot, he gets forward more often than Ebert. He is 185cm, medium built and riding shotgun to perhaps the best running briggade in the competition.

With Swift, Shuey, Masten ect Ebert would end up a very handy 4th midfielder, especially if he overcomes his OP and builds a tank.

I look forward to revisiting this thread, Ebert is very under rated it seems. But i guess thats the reactionary nature of football.

Sorry if this is a bad bump but opinions on this now? One is a captain, the other a vice captain. Two great players.

Personally I would say they are pretty equal at this stage, maybe Ward just a head?
Ward ahead easily, simply because of his leadership. I'm sure Ebert would've been able to do the same given he was presented with the circumstance, but I guess we'll never know.
