Great year, not quite on the ' Brad Green for Captain ' banwagon (leave it for Brock), but he should win the B&F all the same.

His best season to date, which shows that he isn't the front runner everything used to think he was. Has shown a lot of courage and leadership on the ground, as well as using the ball well by hand and foot. His season might even earn him a Best & Fairest and captaincy, so he has definately come a long way.

20 matches
20.13 goals
22.8 disposals
7.0 marks

Round 1 vs. Hawthorn Hawks; Saturday March 27th at the MCG.
Melbourne - 8.13.61 def. by Hawthorn - 17.15.117.

Brad Green:

14 disposals (9 kicks, 5 handballs)
4 marks (1 contested)
6 tackles
2 goals, 2 behinds
1 free kick
5 contested possessions, 7 uncontested possessions
71% disposal efficiency (1 clanger)
3 inside 50s
1 one %er
2 goal assists
Dream Team: 88
SuperCoach: 81

I thought that Green was our best player today. Early in the first quarter, he courageously dived into a pack, hit Kayler-Thomson's hip and was subsequently carried off on a stretcher. At the time it looked pretty serious, but he managed to come back onto the field of play in the second quarter.

He's a tough bugger, and ended up with two goals, roaming the forward line and midfield. He'll always put his body on the line, is a beautiful kick and has a good pair of hands. If we had 22 Brad Greens, we would be a MUCH better side.

He was one of our best in a dark day for the Demons.

Does he keep his spot?
If he's right to play (which he should be), there's no doubt that he's in our best 22. I hope that we can get up against the Pies for Greeny in his 200th.

I think Bailey needs to give him the forward 50 to make his own. Miller has to go.

You create the letter- I'll help organise the petition and we'll storm his office! Watching Miller drop chest marks is embarrassing, and on the off chance he marks one you know he'll miss the set shot anyway. Green is the polar opposite. Forward all year for me!

COURAGEOUS utility Brad Green is hoping for career longevity so he can experience the resurgence that Melbourne is building towards.
Ahead of his 200th AFL match against Collingwood on Saturday, the 29-year-old said he had a desire to play into his mid-30s.

"If the captaincy comes my way, I'll take it with two hands and hopefully we're developing a strong leadership group underneath us," he said.

"I saw the replay of it on Monday. I can remember waking up in the changerooms - that's all I can really remember of it.
"The doc said, 'Watch the second quarter and we'll try and get you out there in the second half'. I said, 'Doc, I'm ready' and I just wanted to get out there and I was egging him on. I got about two or three minutes left in the second quarter and then played the second half."

He said that match, along with the elimination final win over St Kilda in 2006 and victories over Fremantle and the Brisbane Lions in 2007, were among the highlights of his career to date.

My wife is also two weeks away from having a baby, so we're all excited around the family. Away from footy, things are going great," he said.
"I don't know if the father-son rule is going to come into play yet, but hopefully either way we get a keen daughter who is a Melbourne fan or a keen guy who might be able to run out wearing the red and blue."

Round 2 vs. Collingwood Magpies; Saturday April 3rd at the MCG.
Collingwood - 12.14.86 def. Melbourne - 12.13.85.

Brad Green;

21 disposals (17 kicks, 4 handballs)
9 marks (2 contested)
3 tackles
3 goals, 2 behinds
1 free kick against
7 contested possessions, 13 uncontested possessions
62% disposal efficiency (2 clangers)
6 inside 50s, 3 rebound 50s
1 one %er
1 goal assist
Dream Team: 115
SuperCoach: 131

In his 200th game, Green was in our best few players. He started the game on a wing against Dale Thomas, but played most of the game as a leading forward, and with Ricky Petterd, always looked dangerous. His courageous play, experience and good hands nearly got us over the line, and there was one incident with 2 minutes to go where he had Heath Shaw pinged, and should have had a shot on goal to potentially win the game. Green now has 5 goals from 2 games.

Another super game from Green yesterday. I think all of the boys really worked for each other and especially for Brad to try and get up for him in his 200th.

Does he keep his spot?
... Yes.

Round 3 vs. Adelaide Crows; Sunday April 11th at the MCG.
Melbourne - 7.15.57 def. Adelaide - 5.11.41.

Brad Green;

21 disposals (16 kicks, 5 handballs)
8 marks (2 contested)
5 tackles
1 goal, 3 behinds
9 contested possessions, 12 uncontested possessions
57% disposal efficiency (1 clanger)
5 inside 50s
1 one %er
1 goal assist
Dream Team: 111
SuperCoach: 114

Green was, once again, one of our best on Sunday. I feel so confident when he has the ball in his hands (despite his poor disposal efficiency) and he gives a super lead up target. I don't like Bruce in the back half and think that he should rotate between in the forward 50 and through the guts, with Green a permanent forward.

Green had 16 kicks amongst his 21 disposals and has had a high kick:handball ratio all season, which is a very promising sign.

Does he keep his spot?
He does.

Round 4 vs. Richmond Tigers; Sunday April 18th at the MCG.
Melbourne - 20.13.133 def. Richmond - 11.12.78.

Brad Green;

24 disposals (19 kicks, 5 handballs)
8 marks
1 tackle
4 goals, 2 behinds
3 contested possessions, 20 uncontested possessions
71% disposal efficiency (5 clangers)
5 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s
1 one %er
0 goal assists
Dream Team: 116
SuperCoach: 96

Green continued his super start to the year with 4 goals and 24 disposals against Richmond on Sunday. He provided a good target up forward all day, and now leads the Demons in kicks and goals, and is second to only Lynden Dunn in marks. He came off with about 5 minutes to go after a good day's work, but went on for one last burst of about a minute.

Green is very much a leader, which I think is shown in his kick:handball ratio. This is a large contrast to Cameron Bruce.

Does he keep his spot?
Aye.

Round 5 vs. Brisbane Lions; Saturday April 24th at the MCG.
Melbourne - 15.13.103 def. Richmond - 7.11.53.

Brad Green;

22 disposals (13 kicks, 9 handballs)
5 marks
2 tackles
1 goal, 2 behinds
3 contested possessions, 19 uncontested possessions
64% disposal efficiency (1 clanger)
6 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s
0 one %ers
0 goal assists
Dream Team: 89
SuperCoach: 73

I had two absolute highlights from this match. Ironically, both were from the Green vs. Johnstone match up. The first came in the 4th quarter, where Greeny outmarked Trapper in the forward 50. The next came soon after when Brad chased and tackled Johnstone, leading in a holding the ball call and free kick. It was just a super night all round.

Unfortunately Green's disposal efficiency has been down in recent weeks - something to rectify.

Does he keep his spot?
Aye.

Round 6 vs. North Melbourne Kangaroos; Saturday April 31st at Colonial Stadium.
North Melbourne - 15.14.104 def. Melbourne - 12.6.78.

Brad Green;

21 disposals (13 kicks, 8 handballs)
8 marks
3 tackles
4 goals, 0 behinds
5 contested possessions, 16 uncontested possessions
71% disposal efficiency (2 clangers)
5 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s
0 one %ers
2 goal assists
Dream Team: 114
SuperCoach: 99

Green has been consistently good so far this year (so probably him to get injured next!). He single-handedly kept us in it through the core of the game, kicking 4 goals for the match. What I like about him is his ability to convert from anywhere in the forward 50.

Super game from Green.

Does he keep his spot?
Aye.

melbournefc.com.au -Respect our focus: Green (Adam McNicol) July 12 2010

MELBOURNE forward Brad Green says the Demons simply want to keep winning back the respect of the footy world during the remainder of the season, despite the fact they can still mathematically make the finals.

Green booted five goals as the Demons won their fifth game of 2010, defeating Essendon by 19 points at the MCG on Sunday.

The victory means Melbourne is only 10 points behind eighth-placed Hawthorn with seven home-and-away games to play.

“We spent two-and-a-half years in the doldrums, we got our pants pulled down for two-and-a-half years, so it’s about getting respect back and earning some pride for this footy club,” Green said at recovery on Monday.

Sorry I couldn't keep the reviews going, lads. I had one very busy week where I couldn't get around to it and it just kept slipping my mind thereafter!

Green had an outstanding year. He won the best and fairest and should be an All-Australian for the first time.

Winner of the B&F, leader in kicks, marks and goals. Fantastic year, he was in career best form. He deserves AA selection. 9\10

melbournefc.com.au - Green named captain

Brad Green was today announced as the 41st captain of the Melbourne Football Club in front of the playing group, staff and directors at AAMI Park.

Green replaces James McDonald as skipper for 2011, with Aaron Davey, Brent Moloney and Jared Rivers named as his vice captains.
The 2010 Best and Fairest winner, who has played 220 games since a stunning debut season in 2000, said the privilege of leading the Club was one that was very special to him.

“It’s certainly a great honour and an exciting challenge to lead this group in 2011. It’s a privilege that I will cherish to be captain of such a proud history at the Melbourne Football Club.

“This club has come a long way since I walked into Junction Oval on my first day at the Club back in 2000, and that’s reflective of where we are as a team. We have come a long way, but I’m excited about where we are going.

melbournefc.com.au - Q&A with Brad Green at captains' day Matt Burgan

How has your first AFL captains’ day been?

BG: There has been plenty on, but it’s one I’ve really enjoyed, mixing with the captains from around the clubs. It was really good having lunch with them and the AFL commission, which was great.

What have you got out of the day?

BG: It’s been good to see how the other captains’ pre-seasons have been going and the way they’ve all prepared and the way they’ve gone about it. It’s been good catching up with players you know from playing against or ones that you’ve been on tour with, which has been great.

Was there any captain you hadn’t met until today?

BG: I’ve been lucky enough to have met them all before. The thing about the club captains is that they’re all great players and you tend to look up at them and think about the way they go about their footy, which is what I try and do.

Of the club captains, who do you know the most?

BG: I know Adam Goodes and Matthew Boyd after touring with them last October, when playing for Australia. It was good getting to know them well in Ireland and that relationship is great for something like today.

Have there been any amusing stories to come out of the day?

BG: No, not really. It’s all been pretty straight forward, but it’s been a great day to be a part of.

Pre-Season report card - Brad Green

Well, there isn't a whole lot to say about Greeny really. He is Mr. Reliable, Mr. Consistent, and now Mr. Captain.

Didn't do much for pre-season, but didn't need to. We know what we will get from Brad for most of the year. He might have the occassional quiet one, but 9 out of 10 will be honest, hard working, gut wrenching performances.

Once again this year he will be close to our B+F, he will go close to topping the goal kicking, and behind possibly Jamar, be close to our most important player - but that's what his consistency has lead us to expect.

I doubt the captaincy will be a burden to Brad at all, as he was our "spiritual leader" on the field already, and from his few media stints in the off-season he certainly seems to have held himself in good stead.

Expectations for the year -
Goals - 45+
Games - barring injury all 22
Brownlow votes - 10ish
B+F finish - top 3
I'm also expecting, with the increased exposure he will get as captain, that he will sneak in as AA this year.

Good luck Brad for the year ahead!
