I have heard a rumour that Brad has only recently been a bit more serious about football. And that he is a lot more dodgy socially than Stephen.... although these are rumors. If they aren't true it would be fantastic, because I would love to see Brad get picked up.

I know him, really nice bloke, obviously amazing tank, but does lack a bit in the footy department, but is a player who continuously improves.

Looks like Hilly may have taken out the 3km time trial too..

Provisional results for #AFLCombine 3km: Hill 9.52, Hoskin-Elliott 9.53, Sheridan 9.57. Hill & H-E in the same heat - final lap was full on.

- 2.88 second for the 20m sprint
- 16.1 Beep test
- 9.52 for the 3km time trial

Makes him probably the best athlete that has ever taken part in the draft camp. 99% of the time the really fast runners are nowhere when it comes to endurance. Pretty good family legacy that Stephen holds the agility record still and Brad now holds the beep test record.

It's your opinion that Hill was mediocre this year. I think he did reasonably well. Statistically he measures very similar to last year. If your expecting a 3rd year player to carry a team it's no wonder your dissapointed.

When let off the leash he busted games open at times, I remember him tearing Hawk's apart for 3/4 at the MCG and also Adelaide at AAMI. He was also exceptional against Geelong here at Subiaco. There were other games he played well. Some games he did poorly, vs. Saints particularly. Clint Jones seem to match him for pace but had him for endurance.

Funnily enough he scored more brownlow votes this year than last. Yes there were times when he should have gone harder, so what? there were times when Pav, Sandi, McPharlin, Fyfe weren't hard enough. No-one in our team had a perfect season yet it's fine for them to not be perfect. Fyfe burnt the ball a lot, Pav looked slow, Sandi only played 1/2 season due to injury. We don't know if Hilly was playing with broken ribs or bad bruising. Kudos to the kid, he fronted up all year. Very few of our players got through this season.

I'm not saying i don't like Fyfe. Just you gotta learn to take a deep breath and realise most kids don't become elite players instantly. Where was Cyril when Hawks were losing to Collingwood? In a crucial stage of the game he got run down from behind after staring upfield. Rabbit in headlights comes to mind.

Franklin, Judd, Pavlich....very very few players are elite by their 3rd year. Most top class players take several years to find their feet; Ablett, Swan, Pendlebury, Goodes, Thomas, Cox, Sandilands, Goddard, Wells etc. The game is littered with players who take time to establish themselves. Hill is no different.

To scoff at the possiblity of getting another Hill at pick 16 is laughable. Our recruiting staff and all recruiting staff all over Australia would be jumping at the chance of recruiting a Hill clone.

The difference between Brad and Stephen is that Stephen was playing WAFL seniors at the end of the year he got drafted and did extremely well in a WAFL finals series. Brad hasn't had that meteoric rise. Athletically he's there, but not sure his kicking boot and footy brain is comparable. So don't be surprised if Brad slips, but clubs are searching high and low for a combination of speed, endurance, and skills which our Stephen Hill possesses.

Have a look at how high Will Hoskin-Elliott wil be drafted.

Top post rgauci.

Ross Lyon will be licking his lips at having hilly in his team.
100% confident hilly will go absolutely gang busters next year.:thumbsu:

Under 10 minutes is genuine quality for a 17 year old that hasn't been training for that event, and he obviously has kept himself super fit. That doesn't equate with someone that doesn't work hard on the track. You can fake a 20m sprint through sheer talent, but you can't fake a 3km time trial in under 10 minutes unless you've been busting your gut.

Still, it's no proof that you can play the game.

The bolded bit hits the nail on the head.

Everyone that I talk to that has either played in the WP colts with him or has played against him is of the opinion that he's as soft as butter and will be found out in senior footy.

" I remember him tearing Hawk's apart for 3/4 at the MCG and also Adelaide at AAMI."

Unfortunately for Stephen though in that particular match he will only ever be remembered for those two half-hearted chases on Patrick Dangerfield.

Half-hearted? Give the kid a break, he had spent the 10 minutes prior to each of those chases running from one end of the oval to the other.

Patrick Dangerfield. 10 critical error game. 1 goal. Supercoach points 71. Stephen Hill, 28 disposals, 1 goal. Supercoach points 98.

Brownlow votes; 3 Fyfe, 2 Hill, 1 Sandilands.

Spot on. Stephen Hill's strength is his initial burst of speed and agility. Never more evidenced than in the 2010 GF sprint where Hill romped out to the front clearly for the first 25 - 30metres before being reeled in and finishing middle of the ground.

Stephen Hill also played the year with minimal Pre-season training base and always seemed to have his calf strapped. Dangerfield is clearly in the elite of maintained speed - he easily won the 2011 GF sprint.

In that game S Hill made up some initial ground but then just couldnt bridge the gap.

His brother B Hill has certainly improved as the year has gone in the WAFL colts and his results at Combine will ensure that he is picked up but at best 3rd round>Rookie. His form in the Colts has not warranted anything earlier. But sometimes recruiters reach for those with excellent combine results. Freo in mention recruited Joel Houghton (he will most likely be rookied by Freo) after he produced a 15.6 beep or thereabouts in the state combine, but he has never shown any skills in contested marking.

Similar comments were made about goodes in his junior days, some guys just need to be in a fully professional environment to show there best. Time will tell if thats the case with hill.
