Brad Johnson - Part time Forward's Coach

I don't understand this appointment at all, the forward line is clearly our weakest area on the ground and we appoint a part time forward coach for a couple of months with one message only to replace him (calculated guess) come the start of the NAB cup with another forward coach with a different message?? Talk about confusing for the players, supporters, and even other coaches??

Rahilly is the permanent forward coach. Johnson is helping part time, much like Mooney with the Dogs and several other teams with part-timers.

Oh Rahilly, because others on here have said Carecella was our forward coach this season gone and there'd been no news on a replacement? But if that's the case then fine, just didn't want a situation where the players had mixed messages halfway through a pre-season.

It says Rahilly is midfield coach on the club website? It's been updated since Carecella left so do you know something they don't?

I bet the message from Johnson and his replacement will be the same. The real focus will be on the master plan which will include tuning in to the mid field and even back line coaching messages. There's no way that Johnson is coming in to implement structures in isolation to the master plan.

i was going off the article on the H.S website:

The former Dog has been the coach of the AFL Academy for several years. Geelong’s forward coach will remain James Rahilly.

Although that piece is taken from Fox Sports and written by Jake Niall so fair chance it is wrong...

Cant be a bad thing. Bloke could play and he ripped us a new one a few times.

And judging by his previous appointments has had some good coaching experience.

And he's not from GFC or BL so it breaks the jobs for the boys mould.

Ticks a lot of boxes actually.

Go Catters

Hmm this has double agent written all over it... Firstly they employ all our ex players as assistants and now have one of their insiders lurk around the club whilst we train and develop tweaks to game plan during pre-season, only to leave the club end of January and be under no obligation not to provide updates to Beveridge and the boys...

Of course all are meant to work together but different coaches do have different philosophies and tactics that they implement within that larger framework once Johnson leaves and someone else comes they will change and that means there's scope for some confusion with the changes a new coach will implement. By the way who the F is our forward line coach? Club website says we don't have one...

But great to see the smiling assassin at Geelong
I think the original quote was:

Michael Talia is his assistant!?

We can forget how good this guy was, 6 time All Australian, once as captain (2006) in that year universally considered the best player in the game. Bulldogs games record holder. Only as tall as mid fielder, played the first half of his career as a mid then had to fill in roles as CHF and FF! Knew where the goals were. Grew up locally (Hoppers) went to school at Chanel lives in Newtown, and the most important thing is he positive and has an impeccable character. He will always give 100%. Good mates with Mooney. If he had a premiership he would be valued higher but he couldn't give anymore than he did. I'd say don't let him go.

I'm actually really happy with having him involved, really smart player.. good footy brain and having been in a development role with the AIS he should be good with the kids.

Hearing him on SEN this morning only further got me thinking it will be a good thing.. he may only officially be on the books till early next year, but hearing him talk I got the clear impression he will be available/helping the forwards as much as they need during the year as well

Yep! Said he was in the NT recently and Mots was looking as fit as. The reality of nobody prepared to risk him might just have done the trick. No question about the talent, just the application.
