Brad mentioned that Murder was training well.

Is it a good or bad thing that he has noticed Jordan?

:D:p
I'm just surprised anyone noticed Murdoch on a football field. :p

In all seriousness if they're going to play Murdoch anywhere then it should probably be the forward line, so that's positive. He was pretty good in 2013 using his speed to get behind defenders.

Paul Chapman would be a good appointment.

Yes, probably as a coach of the smaller forwards. And that is what I was under the impression was the role for Johnston.

I'm pretty sure we tried to employ him straight after he retired but he decided to concentrate on media work. He has coached the AFL Academy, but my main concern with him would be can he move past his love for the Bulldogs ?

Joel Corey?
Steven King?
Ben Graham?
They all managed to move past their love of the Cats at Whitten oval.

If he can teach Hawkins to lead than that's a tick
And if he can get the ball carrier to look down and lower the eyes.... my god the heaven!!!

Thought he spoke really well in the interview up on the cats site. Although noticeable he didn't speak as a member of the group didn't say we used they etc.
He said he hopes to develop relationships that will continue with players. That's a real positive hope they can convince him to continue on in a part time role for the rest of the season.

Need to get the ball down there quick enough to give the big fella room to lead into instead of having a dozen or so opposition players clogging up our forward 50 first.

I really truly hope he can get the forwards to work together as one unit, to work to create space, throw blocks for each other and to stress that if they do these things it will help them all be successful

Brad Johnson is a good temporary addition in my opinion. Got a lot of time for his grasp of the game.

How much he can do in 6-8 weeks is debatable.
Think it's toe in the water stuff. Reading the tea leaves following a Smiling Assassin interview, if it proves beneficial and he can fit it in with his Fox commitments he will do more during the year. He lives on the Surf Coast so it could be a good fit.

I'm happy.
He lives in Geelong area, always respected Geelong, and could be available for a longer term if mutually beneficial.

Bloke could play. Didn't he kick 6 against us in '06 or '07? It was when they had recruited Aker. Oh, does James1970 not know about Lemmy? Should we tell him?

How completely and utterly coincidental. 'Member Brad Johnson was always smiling or grinning? As soon as I read the thread title I thought

THIS is key. Delivery INTO the forward line. No more dumb iron bombs for our arsenal thankyou very much, it's laser-guided munitions all the way!

Who's our midfield coach again??

Our delivery in to the forward line and the way the forward line is set up right now won't win us a flag so if Johnno can change this in some way then he's more than welcome at Geelong.

Couldn't agree more. Defenders know our default is to kick it on Tommie's head.
We should look at the way the Eagles structure up. Admittedly Pattersons is a huge ground but when they are on guys like Le Cras, Darling, Hill and Lycett/Nic Nat all spread and present - leaving Kennedy one out with space either side to lead into. Add to that quick ball movement and it's no wonder Kennedy is at the pointy end of the Coleman each year.
We have massive improvement in us if we can create better synergy between the mids and forwards , we were right up there with F50 entries but relatively poor in conversion - get that working and it's a whole different ballgame IMHO

Rahilly is the permanent forward coach. Johnson is helping part time, much like Mooney with the Dogs and several other teams with part-timers.
Having Rahilly there in any capacity at all is bewildering.

Ultimately we have no idea how good any of the assistants are. As long as Johnson is effective that's all that matters.
I'm only basing my thoughts on hearing him speak at the inner sanctum and also his talent (or lack thereof) on a footballing level. Not that the latter is a prerequisite to an able coaching career. He just didn't strike me as one with any football nous.

As for Johnson, I spent my entire high school years alongside him and he's an astute football observer who'll be an asset to the club.
