The subordinates do need to be kept track of, particularly if they are out of the office. That expenses claim for the trip to Kalgoorlie, does an admin staff just blindly pay everything? A manager would work out a strategy with that subordinate about where to go, how long - and no, just because you have family in widgeemooltha it doesn't mean you can do recruitment trips specifically to widgeemooltha at the companys expense once a month sorta thing. For the information coming back from different states about potential draftees, it has to be held to a standard instead of just trying to guage from the vibe.

pd of a manager: rubber stamping and kissing bums up the food chain.

There is no perfect information available to all buyers in any market, let alone one with as much variability as a drafting market. It is foolish to think that the information a list manager has access to in Melbourne is the same he has in Perth, and that it doesn't vary by the club he's attached to.

Regardless, no other club does it aside from us, and it hasn't succeeded. What makes you think it can succeed?

He doesn't go to grounds with binoculars for a job, he is the manager of a team of others with the binoculars. Being in Melbourne, he get's his information about WA recruitment from the WA recruiter - If he was in Perth - he still get's his information from the WA recruiter.

As for him being in Melbourne, what of it? It is what companies do. You have sales people in different states, all organised by the main sales manager - or state managers reporting to a general manager. It is not new, it is not innovative, he has a team all over the place, so it's not like he needs to peer over the partition and whip the call centre operators under him, it's phone calls, email and sms and periodically plane flights for some eye to eye time. I highly doubt that Bond/Lyon and others need much interaction with the position for the bulk of the year.

Maybe i am being a little cynical , But if Cerra does not extend and he finishes up at Carlton.I would be more than a little suspicious of Lloyd.
