Player Watch Brayden Maynard

Was great on the weekend. If people are associating the 2 or 3 turnovers with him having a bad game then they need to look at the way the ball was delivered to him badly those 2 or 3 times

Cant remember specifically but I do remember thinking , geeze that's like the third time in so many minutes someone has put Maynard under a lot of pressure with poor disposal

kicked 2 goals in the last quarter , thought he was great. Love his arrogance and aggression at the opposition players

Stevie J getting off him was a mistake , but there needs to be leadership down in that backline to make sure all bases are covered . we don't have that anymore

Good outweighs the bad. Unlike other players dropped recently hes still in pretty good form despite the clangers.

Agree. Still young, still yet to crack the 50 game milestone, time is on his side. Don't like to see any player make mistakes but that is the reality of introducing kids, they tend to make them. Far more accepting of an occasional mistake if a player is taking the game on which Maynard does in spades.

He cost us the game.. time he went to the twos.

Glad we've been able to confirm that it was Maynard, and Maynard alone, who cost us the game.

Agree - the kid will be good, and as for mistakes he's not alone. At the same age watching BJ, Shaw was also frustrating.
Its sad so many people are incapable of seeing his true ability and have focussed on the 'perfect" crumb to SJ which could have easily gone the other side of the pack to Maynard.
If we had won, no-one would have praised the kid for losing SJ in the traffic and scoring one of his 2 goals in the last QTR.

He's got mungrel, pace and is a good kick - and he looks better and better every week. He shows more at the same than Heater at equivalent number of games.

What allowed Johnson to get the crumb is that Maynard got caught out watching the pack and ball instead of focusing on his man. As a young player he'll learn from that and it's not fair to single out on small mistake as the reason we lost. It does suggest though that perhaps Maynard isn't a natural defender.

10 possesions Blair cost us with the stupid and unessecary free kick.

Really a multitude of reasons and momemts over the course of a game are why we lost.

Btw did i mention Blair only got 10disp playing major mi:(dfield time...

Yes Blair is a spud but Maynard is a spud that's never been dropped.

If it had have gone to Maynard, he would have hand passed it to SJ and the same result would have happened.
In all honesty though the main culprit for the loss was the same person as usual who is just not up to it. Poor for most of the day and that stupid free kick at the end to seal the deal. His name starts with B and ends with lair.

Yes Blair is a spud but Maynard is a spud that's never been dropped.

He got dropped last year for a game or 2.

He is a young player who needs the game time that's why Buckley is persisting with Maynards up and down performances.

He is not as bad as being portrayed and overall actually had an ok game last weekend.

You want to highlight his handball what about WHE handball to an unsuspecting Greenwood on the 50m arc after a mark, when Greenwood was running past only about a foot away from him WHE limp dicked handball to him that didnt even make it!

On top of that should he of made the handball from 30cm away:oops: Greenwood would of been tackled anyway.

See how many mistakes make up for reasons why we lost rather then 1 particular players bad minute of play.

ATM due to inexperience and panic we are making many dumb decisions and erratic skill errors.

Are people forgetting how he lazily overran the ball in the first half just outside the 50 and cost us a goal or the no pressure handball stuff up later that cost us another goal? It's not like this doesn't happen every single week either. We have yet to see one half - let alone a game -from him that shows he's as good as his so called reputation seems to indicate. He scored two goals but there was another gimme he should really have scored that could have won the game for us.

In terms of the errors I can excuse him for the second one i mentioned it's not like he was alone in making skill errors (although again he does this every single week in terrible situations) but the first was inexcusable.

Tbf I don't blame him for the SJ goal that was more down to SJ than Maynard.

I think the guy has potential but we've seen many players with potential come and go and I get the feeling this guy is heading that way unless things change. Felt the same about Seedsman. A lot of hype at the moment is Maynard.

Reputation? You mean that high ranking of "developing kid, reasonable long term potential, with under 50 games" that most rational posters attribute to him?

Who was on Stevie J?
Just because Maynard's man kicked the goal doesn't mean he cost us the game.

We could've expected Jordan De Goey to convert his late opportunity, Jarryd Blair could've been a little bit more sensible in his approach to the contest that lead to him giving away a sliding free kick, Tom Phillips had plenty of time to get back on his feet and kick the ball inside 50 rather than flailing around looking for a handball, more pressure could've been applied to Nathan Wilson's launch inside 50, we could have been more fortunate by not having an unnecessary goal review therefore allowing GWS to set up, Schade could've been awarded a free kick for a blatant shove in the back by Cameron, Goldsack and or Schade to be more effective in spoil that lead to the Stevie J crumb.

There's plenty of situations in the last 5 minutes that we could've done better or been more fortunate in. But I wouldn't expected anything else from you than to blame Maynard because it fits your agenda.

Also may I add. The stupid ump asking for a review when clearly it was a behind and Howe couldn't move it on quickly to a free man. That cost us as well. Maynard did not cost us that game. In fact he should've won it for us with the second goal he kicked.

Maynard is a defender what's his number 1 job?
