Player Watch Brayden Maynard

Still like Maynard, we need to give him time. He was poor in the first half of last year, and made a significant improvement in the second half.

Then again, we probably don't have the luxury of time. We've been waiting a few seasons now for players who need 'time'. It's running out.

But Maynard is worth persisting with. Perhaps reassess after 4 or 5 games?

Blairs been poor. Coming from a low base though, hence my joke about whther he has gone backwards or just his usual self. Maybe thet went over your head, Got plenty of ball in round one and was wasteful, didnt do much at all round two.

Whats your point? Ten players were named in a previous post that have allegedly "gone backwards". Way too early to be making those calls. Some better kicking in both rounds and the results may have been different.

I woulndt be dropping Maynard, he needs to work his way through it.
Work his way through it? He needs to be dropped and work his way through it in the vfl. Let's see what he can produce a lower grade. Yet to see it.

So based on your posting: You think that everything is going well now and over the last 5 years and that those who are unhappy are uninformed fools who don't see the obvious big picture as you do. Or; you think that it is your job as a supporter to support whatever happens, and to support those at the club regardless of results produced.

Given where we are at as a club and the piss poor decisions taken to get here, your relentless defense of everything the club has done and is doing, and your attacks on others who disagree; makes your posting somewhat "unusual". It lacks any normal balance and connection to the reality of where we are at as a club.

It is also disrespectful of you to continually throw this stuff at other posters when they are angry and upset at the club like they are at the moment. Just denying their valid points and emotions and spinning a bs counter-attack doesn't help. It's like you have no emotional connection to the club or something and can't relate to how pissed off people are with what has gone on and where we seem to be headed. If you were a club plant, I would expect you to be more subtle and balanced. So it's option 2 for me.

Why is it always assumed that posters who don't see the need to call for a lynch mob think that everything is peachy and are totally thrilled with the way things are going? How does constant venting and running down players change or improve anything?

Don't see any star potential in him, looks like he'll be a 150 game player though. Maybe Ben Johnson with more mongrel but more inconsistent kick

I'd be pretty happy if he ended up like Ben Johnson. I remember Johnson, Swanny and Toovey having pretty terrible first 40 games.

Compared to those players first few years Maynard isn't doing so bad. But he does freak out a bit with the ball and gets caught out of position on his man but so do plenty of other players in our team.

I offer these emotional posters an alternative point of view they may not have considered. Why don't you challenge the points I disagree with rather than challenge my sanity.
Why not put up reasoned defense of these fools bagging Maynard.
You either lack the fortitude or you actually agree with me, and sadly it the later because you don't want to identify with the fools.

Don't pretend it's about Maynard Spinny.
Year after year, you come on here and post stuff that exactly reflects and mirrors the clubs line and spin on things. Your posting never deviates from it's full support for the club, no matter what the situation or the obviousness of the stuff up, you will be in here trying to spin it as something else. You don't even express concern or reservation about what goes on.

Where you have to acknowledge a stuff up or issue, you will be the one who comes in here and brings all the well thought out excuses and mitigating factors. The only negativity you engage in about our players is in regards to ex-players such as Marley and Cloke; and other posters you don't like.

Year after year, mistake after mistake, you are here telling everyone that all is well, we are overreacting and we're a bunch of emotional fools. You NEVER deviate. Even after a loss like against Carlton last year, you don't express any anger or frustration, instead you come on here to tell everyone to grow up and point out the obvious flaws in their emotional postings.

You don't engage in idle banter
You don't engage in humor
You don't ever express any emotion or frustration
You don't engage in fantasy trading scenarios etc.
All you do, week after week, year after year, is post your well spun arguments that exactly mirror what the club would like everyone to believe.

As I said, you are our Kelly-Ann Conway... I base that on an impartial assessment of what you are consistently doing on the board with your posting; year after year. If I'm wrong then I am not even going to apologize because if you're gonna walk and quack like a duck it's reasonable of me to assume you are one.

Maynard needs to be persisted with. Sometimes he almost tries too hard and thereby loses his composure, then has brain fart moments. He needs to work on that.

Heaven forbid that I point out people are being unfair on Maynard in the Maynard thread - that's where this started, before you began to derail this into a personal vendetta.
Your are entitled to your opinion and as long as you remain civil I take no offense.

Now go and take aim at the serial sad sacks with the same vigor that you have attacked me - it's only fair.
When you're done there you can start on the Realists and then move onto the Dreamers.

And when I next post, please feel free to challenge the facts in my post, because people have had enough of this sermon from pulpit.

Finally, I have to say this has been a very thinly disguised attempt to coerce me into retreating from this board.
It's not going to work, mate - see you in the next thread.

I think by end of the season we will know whether he is going to be a player or not.

He makes a lot of costly mistakes and there isn't anywhere to hide when they are made on the backline. But, I think he needs to be persisted with this year so that we can form an opinion whether he is up to it.

My concern with him is that he is not a 'smart' player. He seems to lose concentration and finds himself lost. One of the big problems for the team is that our players don't react quickly enough when the ball is with the opposition. He is one of the main culprits.

Just my thoughts. Hopefully he can remain focused and be the player we need.

I've been pretty impressed with Maynard, in both his hunger for the contest and his general capabilities. He does make some odd mistakes here and there, but he continues to be an inexperienced player in a back line under more than a bit of pressure.

People who've been to Collingwood games over the years would notice that we now have a very 'quiet' defence. Brown, Reid and Goldsack have always seemed like a trio of introverts, especially when compared to the direction and remonstrating of types like Maxwell and Shaw. I sometimes wonder if the lack of vocal, on-field direction at crucial moments has been a detriment to younger or more inexperienced players. Only my impression, could be terribly mistaken.

YOU are the one who started attacking a poster because he is unbalanced and serially negative about the club in his postings. YOU! If you don't see the hypocrisy and irony of that then I can't help you further.

But I'll try anyway..

From a professional development stand point; I think you would find that your posting would be more respected and taken note of if you had any semblance of reality and balance in it rather than just pure pro everything the club does spin. I think your writing would benefit greatly from including a display of some emotional attachment to the club and it's misfortunes at times; showing some understanding and empathy of where other supporters are at with their frustration, rather than just attacking them; develop some subtlety in how you try to promote your agenda. Denial and excuse making season finished last year; it's time to incorporate a bit of humility and acknowledgement in your spin.

If you don't want to end up being called out for your own incessant club-spin posting; then I suggest you refrain from attacking others who do exactly what you do, just from the opposing side.

I don't intend to continue this debate - the other posters here I'm sure have had enough, so this will be my last reply to you.

Yes - I did reply to a poster.
And did he then ask you via a PM to start the personal attack on his behalf?
Good for you.

My attitude on BF is like my attitude to life - you don't dwell on the negativity that pervades the world.

You don't relent to the incessant, hurdles and challenges that life puts infront of you.

The past is the past it can't be changed, and moving forward with a positive approach to life is the only way I know how to live.

You make not like it, and nor may many others but that ethos pervades my view on BF.

I'm not here to be judged, nor do I care what you think, and your professional development advice is condescending.

My achievements and success in my life, are firmly based on this positive attitude.
To have been challenged here by you because of it, is presumptuous and ill-informed.

I have made my position totally clear - you can chose to accept it or you can move on.

The world is full of nay sayers, and purveyors of doom and gloom, I have no interest in indulging them.

When posters I respect suggest my contributions here are unwelcome then I will reconsider my place on this board.

Until then, you can move onto attacking the Sad Sacks, Dreamers and Realists, as I said before, its only fair that they equally to bear the brunt of your animosity.

Better still, take a deep breath and understand that having a positive attitude is not a crime, as you have attempted to portray it.

That last Maynard shot on goal which landed ten rows back over the fence (under no pressure) was absolutely pathetic. Two players were in the square, furiously waving. In the JLT he grubbed balls along the ground and cost us goals. He is gutsy and has some ability but I m getting sick to death of these repeated brain fades and skill errors. Under pressure they can be forgiven, but he does it when running in space. I am over our lack of skill. It has been the one constant in Collingwood teams for along time. Even in 2010 we were the worst team in the comp for conversion in front of goal.

Yes, heaven forbid a twenty year old make mistakes.

Context.
Johannesson is 25 years old. Anyone ever really heard of him before last season?

My last word too.
If you are a genuine poster and a genuine supporter you will acknowledge other posters frustration with the OBVIOUS problems we've had for a long time now. You won't continually attack them for expressing this frustration. You would also not; for the last 5 years; agree with and defend every thing the club has done; and NEVER express a view contrary or in disagreement with club decisions and directions as you have done. Supporting failure, and spinning excuses and attacking people who are critical is not being positive... it's damage control; it's head in the sand stuff and it's a big negative!

For me, your posting is emblematic of the self serving excuse making and arrogant rot that has infested our club and made it so inept and mediocre.

I think the problem with Maynard is that some people expect him to be the next Pendlebury, bound to lead to disappointment.
Im not sure anyone ever expected or expects him to hit those heights. Not sure what would give you that idea.

People say Blair should be dropped I can't recall Maynard playing twos.
