Player Watch Brayden Maynard

He seemed to be thrown into the role at the end and got a bit of the ball, I was actually quite impressed with his effort in there seeing as he hasn't been there since his junior days. Wouldn't be a bad idea to keep him in the middle but unfortunately our list has hardly any small defenders on it for some stupid reason, so we can't afford to have him in the midfield right now.
Broomhead can play small defender. Played HB for SA in the Carnival if I recall correctly. Can provide zip and some good kicking skills.

Also want Varcoe back there too

Just watched the last quarter of the Saints match again and Maynard goes into the midfield just after the Membrey goal at 5:07 left in the game. He was influential in a few clearances and was pretty clean in the middle, one thing he should've done was back himself to kick a long goal out of the square rather than passing off to Treloar, he'll learn from that. I would love to see someone like Blair or Crisp out, Maynard into the middle and Scharenberg replace him in defence.

Maynard is definitely a keeper. Still young and will make mistakes but has some nice weapons and with a couple of more years under his belt will be awesome down back

Does he have a right foot, genuine question not trying to be negative but I'm guessing he doesn't? I'm certain he would be practising it, could elevate his game again if he does.

I can't believe the inability of such a huge number of AFL players from all clubs to kick on their non-preferred.

But first things first...................we need to learn to kick on our preferred first :drunk:

Maynard has shown lots of promise in what has been a very bleak year so far. He does make the odd blooper, as did Johno in his youth. I see him as a rough diamond; his competitiveness is outstanding.

He was your namesake today.....a beast!
He's actually personified that in just about every game he's played, few blunders here and there don't change that.

Not to highlight your point because it's correct, but the best non preferred kick was Peter Daicos.
Gee he could do incredible goals using his left foot.

I just don't understand how some people can't see that he will be a 200 gamer. Good defensively, good athletically and generally good skills. Only the odd brain fart seems to cloud some peoples judgement.

Yeah we need to accept the brain farts.......that goal was immense especially after I nearly threw the remo just before that miss. :drunk:

If stays healthy agree 200 plus games, agree.

I think he'll be A grade in time, just a beast, a strong bull in defence.
Think Worsfold toughness ie at the ball and get out of the way

Maynard terrific today

Because the talk for a couple of years from recruiters was that if you can banana it like Motlop does from your preferred it is the same thing, that works for a lot of players.

IMO that is shit, you need to learn to kick both feet and at AFL level you should be relatively competent on your non preferred.

The real test is pressure on your non preferred, many players can look good at training on non preferred but can crack during pressure games.

Goal kicking yes, general play Buddha hocking
Interesting nomination, I'd still go Daicos probably because I saw him game on game.
Hocking was terrific, yes.

Buckley terrific too both sides.
