I nominated him as he started his career as a right footer and switched to left footer when he had knee problems then switched back later
that rings a bell.
You may on too something.
Was a great player, whiskas.

Lol@comparing Budda with Daics.....ones a drummer the others a virtuoso violinist!
I assume Daicos is the violinist.

You saying Suzi Tyrell is better than Max Weinberg?

Have you seen the latest "Moment in Time" on the clubs website?
Daics last game against the Cats at Vicci Park. 6 of the best (at least 2 on the left) and one left footer from the left forward pocket on the boundary line.

Sam Mitchell is the closest I've seen to Daics proficiency on his left (though most good players of the 50's to 80's were ABLE to kick with both feet).....but even Mitchell is 30% behind Magic.
Honourable mention to Bernie Quinlan who was a beautiful long kick on his left, couldn't do the tricks that Daics could do though.

Where did Maynard play his junior footy?

We have lacked a quality small defender for years and we haven't recruited or traded to fix the problem. We have all these medium types who were always questionable if they would work out. Not one of them has.

Sandy Dragons and the Hampton Rovers

Brainfade Maynard kicked a flukey goal.

Not flukey if you're specifically trying to get in that position and your teammate gives it to you from the mark.

I cant remember who had taken the mark (Dunn?) But he could easily have taken a shot, or put it to the top of the square. The fact that he gave it to Maynard on the boundary suggests that both players thought this was the better option.

The same goes for whoever gave it to Dunn for a shot (behind) from the right boundary on the 50.

You wouldn't be deciding to pass it off for shots like that if you dont have some confidence from training.

think it was Howe who gave it to Maynard for the goal.

It was still arse, give him 10 shots he'd be lucky to kick another.

He'd kick near half.

Very suitable long kick, that's something I think he does quite well.

Goal kicking yes, general play Buddha hocking
Sam Mitchell in that conversation. Definitely the best dual sided player of this generation.

Maynard is a great young player to have. He's hard at it, knows how to use his body, can run, and is a very nice kick of the Sherrin.

His composure and decision making will improve with experience, but I'm happy to back him in for a long career with the Pies barring injury or mishap **touch wood**

Have to agree,to me he has that X factor.I wonder in time can he play in the midfield.
Looks a more natural mid to me, looks so much better when he goes through the centre square

Lets not make that mistake again.
We did it with Marley and Harry O, both with similar results.

Maynard's disposal and decision making is adequate for a defender - it is not at the level required for a regular mid. He's also a pretty good 1:1 small defender. Lets keep him on the B/HB lines, and allow him the freedom to run forward when the opportunity arises. He will get plenty of chances to get the ball with a bit of room running through the centre, or to take those booming shots from around the 50. (Similar to Ben Johnson's career).

DONT try to turn him into a midfielder - he just isn't that type of player.

Different to Marley and H as a players, better kick for a start, although H was not to bad. He is alright as a defender, Marley when in form better, just that he could go there when needed and do the job very well where the other two no thank you

I really don't see his disposal or decision making being much different to either of the other two. All 3 were prone to making mistakes when there was pressure on, including just bombing it long to nobody, and all 3 were known to having the odd shank.

Just think he is a player you can throw in there to make it happen when needed.
Also seeing him with more up side, and his kicking is much improved to what it was.
Teams like pieces they can use any where and l see him in the future as that
