Player Watch Brayden Maynard

Cannot believe some of you people , you don't trade 24 yo players who are in your best 2 or 3 , Maynard is one of the best defenders in the league
plays his heart out every game for us. Trade someone like Adams ,has value but can be injury prone and will be close to 30 by the time we are back in flag contention. Also he stuffs about 20% of his disposals has horrid kicking efficiency and a worse turnover average than Madgen.
Mate, he's a half back flanker who's disposal and decision making can be really bad, I love Maynard but if we can get 2 first round picks for him then we would be mad not to take it. You only have to look at Carlton who bought in 2 HBF in Saad and Williams to see that half back flankers don 't make that much of a difference, I rate both those players the equal of Maynard

Maynard needs to stay. He is your heart and soul (Ben Johnson) type player.

i am a bit confused how Melbourne can afford an expensive free agent style recruit every season, while still retaining their internal quality players. Doesn’t add up to me.
Competent administrators and list managers? Players prepared to take a cut not bleed the club dry? Players from other teams who actually want to play with Melbourne unlike the guys we want to attract? Salary cap cheating?

Huh?

I’d love you to justify this. IMO he’s our second best after Moore. Should have been AA last year over that spud at Port.

Add Howe to the discussion if he can ever get back on the park with any regularity. They're our top 3 defenders. Crisp next level down, Roughy, Mayne (on current form) and IQ down another level after that.

I thought the whole Maynard trade speculation has gone. Seems it’s reared it’s head again on the back of a poster with seemingly no indication of evidence what so ever?

Gonna be a long off season
All run by the media who has had this club in their sights since well before the last trade period.

Couldnt have said it better myself.

Half backs and half forwards are a dime a dozen in todays game.

We're all laughing at how Saad has been replaced at Essendon by a bargain basement recruit in Hind. Williams is not living up to the hype that surrounded him in the pre season and Martin can hardly get on the park. This year those three players will be earning a combined total north of $2 Million, a significant portion of the Salary Cap.

Proofs in the pudding, these players can be replaced and often for a lot less than what you'd think.

In the not too distant future, the core of our backline will be Moore, Maynard and Quaynor, who as a combination will be on a combined salary of $1.75 - $2.0 million.

If you could flip Maynard for at least a 2022 first rounder, 2021 late picks to help with Daicos and pick up a player whos a free agent, like Jake Kolodjashnij, Neville Jetta, Hamish Hartlett - all who wouldn't cost a bomb and can hold us over until the kids develop... i think its a no brainer.

This is what I mean though. Have you heard it mentioned or anyone run with it since a radio commentator said it 2 weeks ago?

The media isn’t even running with this one, even when he said it no one ran with it..

You're arguing that all HBFs and HFFs are the same in value. it's a hard proposition to support. You mention Nick Hind... would he be able to hold his own with Toby Greene or Liam Ryan? Maynard has.

The respectable media people won't touch it but there are always - 'opinion' pieces where the outlet can disclaim responsibility.

Do you mean the same Toby Greene that has kicked 5 and 3 goals in the last two games against him, which we have gone onto lose...

The same GWS where a 2 point loss in 2020 was compounded by an erratic kick out of D50 by Maynard that resulted in a goal from Toby Greene with less than 10 mins to go in the game

I have said it time and time again, he does so much good and offsets it with brain fades.

Would Hind let through 8 goals in two losses against Greene, well objectively, no - because we wouldn't have that matchup, we would likely play Quaynor on him if Maynard wasn't there...

Or play on an opposition KPF and hold their own as he's done in recent games.

He will mature. See how he goes with a new coach. Im not bothered with his brain fades. Does more good than bad.

Should never run on the basis of ship them off if they arent a robot

Agree, not even close to being questionable. Now among the best small-medium defenders in the game and has the capacity to take on a KPF size opponent now as well.

He's not the first and he certainly won't be the last Collingwood player in that particular boat.

Cox is the most infringed against player in the league - probably of all time.

Big Trav was shockingly treated as well.
Jolly openly admitted he got looked after by umpires more at the Swans then Pies.

Yeah agree. Sure we can put Quaynor on Greenes/Gray . But he doesnt have the same capability of Maynard to play on those KPF also

Maynard
Noble Moore Quaynor

Just need two more spots to fill, all are at a reasonable age

Doesn't have anywhere near the 1v1 defensive ability on those dangerous small-mediums as Maynard either. Not sure he ever will, not sure he needs it while we've got Maynard.

moore Howe crisp all better

TBH I had forgotten completely about Howe. But yes, he is better.

Personally I think Maynard is also better than Crisp.

Regardless I don’t think we want to go trading away gun players right in their prime. Particularly when other members of the back six will also be retiring in the next few years.

depends what we can get from him.

if we got offered pick 7 or 8 like Carlton got for Saad would you turn that down?

What is the likelihood of that happening?
