Williams recruited as a midfielder.
Yes and that’s probably why they justified paying him $800kpa. Seems to be failing as a midfielder and probably going back to HB. Has been found out. That’s the same risk with Maynard.

I agree, but there’s no guarantee Maynard will ever be a “top midfielder”. I don’t doubt he’d be useful in there, anything more than that is just hoping for the best case scenario.
I don’t think he will either. I think his position is on the backline. All I was initially pointing out is that if he was after a big contract ($800k), that should be reserved for the absolute top midfielders, and not HBF. When it was said that he wants to play midfield, all I said is that whether he does it doesn’t matter, he would need to be one of the best midfielders to get paid that sort of money. Which I doubt.

Why would a transition into the midfield substantially increase his potential earnings? Do people think Crisp will get a big pay rise off his midfield exposure this year? Do people assume he’d be pushing AA or Copeland or high Brownlow finishes if he moves?
I don’t think it should, but I don’t think you should pay HBF’s any more than that. If rumours about rivals offering more $$, then I wouldn’t want to match it if he can’t be a match winner in the middle

So what conclusion do you come to from ‘love playing for Collingwood and being at Collingwood. My heart is with Collingwood. I’m a loyal person’.?
What conclusion did you come to from Kennet, Mitchell and Clarkson's absolutely definitive public statements that their succession plan would go ahead as announced?

‘That is a false equivalence that has no bearing on what happens with Maynard.
It is a completely relevant equivalence and you know it. If you think Maynard making public statements about his AFL contract intentions are different to Kennet, Mitchell and Clarkson's ... Explain .. I'm all ears ... How is it different? The topic we are discussing is "what conclusions can you draw from what people say in these situations"... ? Give it your best shot.

That Clarkson's situation has no bearings on Maynard is an obvious... and is a classic red herring.
You have clearly suggested you can " draw conclusions" as you put it, from public pronouncements from AFL people.

You clearly can't.
If you didn't realise that by now.....

I'm happy for him to negotiate as much as he can. If we can't satisfy his demands then the balls in his court.

‘The only conclusion you can draw is Maynard hasn’t signed a contract for 2023. That is it.

‘Anything else is pissing in to the wind.

what happened at the Hawks has no bearing on what Maynard will do.

To argue Clarkson leaving proves Maynard will leave is ludicrous.

That wasn't what I was saying and you know it. Clearly what I am saying is... You can't draw any conclusions from public statements in these situations. Your post suggested you could.

If he decides he wants to leave what would be the best result for us factoring in potential draft deficit disaster..

If Maynard left, it would be disastrous for the club. The deficit can be made up in other ways, we don't need to see Maynard walk out the door.

Said it before, say it again we simply cannot lose this guy. Id trade Moore over Maynard any day of the week.

I love Bruzzy, he's a heart and soul player but that's a HUUUUUGE call.

Moore is one of the few shining beacons of elite talent we have.

I value Maynard higher simply because of Moore’s injury history. Moore’s elite no doubt 👍

When he isn’t injured.

Agreed, Moore isn't as robust as we'd like him to be, but how good is he when on song?

Like Elliot, his soft tissue lets him down but we're a 2-3 goal better side when they're in.

Bruzzy is very valuable to us. Tough, uncomprimising, and a very decent defender with potential for spells on the ball.

I wouldn't want have to choose between them but on raw talent Bruzzy gets bronze.

The difference is that it's long been the norm for clubs to deny coaches being about to be moved on. Whereas managers advise players to say nothing, as those who have made statements like Bruzzy and then left have copped a heap od flack.
