SEN this morning suggested that North have decided to stick by Goldstein and back him in to recapture his best form, and would be prepared to entertain offers for Preuss. The two main suitors listed were the Bulldogs and Brisbane, possibly depending on whichever of the two clubs Stefan Martin is at in 2018.

What would he be worth to either team, and would North be making the right call in backing Goldstein/Daw over Preuss?

If Pruess could get us a (better) shot at a high quality midfield prospect now I can see how it would be entertained. He also might want out if we stick with Goldstein in the team. Is an interesting one to see play out, we're not blessed with huge amounts of bait.

With North Melbourne rebuilding their list why keep Goldstein who has 3-4 years of football left at best versus Preuss who has 10+ years of footy potentially.
Too bad no one will take Daw off their hands, how he is contracted till 2019 is astounding.

This was my thinking. They either couldn't find a club interested in Goldstein, or the offer(s) weren't good enough.

North Melbourne have heaps of salary cap space (verified by chasing Dustin Martin and Josh Kelly).
Having to pay part of his salary for another club to take him is a non-issue.

Your 2nd pick for Stef Martin on a 2 year deal optioned to 3. He's automatically your starting ruck, protects English (Who is realistically 2-3 years away anyway) and comes fairly cheap.

I think because other clubs were sniffing around when he was out of contract. I guess North had to pay up.

We chased Martin a couple of years ago so we clearly rate him. Either way we need help, Roughy's only decent when injury free and Campbell is a bit more old-ruck style, not really the way Bevo wants the position played

I'd give our first in a heartbeat. Maybe with a swap back in our favour in a later round but would be satisfied.
