Named in the best for Vic Metro in their win over SA at the U18 Championships. Also kicked a goal.

He played last year also at 16.
He looks like a player. Will be a great pick up under the father-son. :)

I've heard they would be both be worth the two picks, 2nd and 3rd round, which is probably what the club'll do.

I think with the amount of interest he generates in the press (not because of his old man either), I think he would have to be in the top 20 and Heath in the top 35 to 40.
So the second and third round we give up would be about right.

Yes but...

If you take Brayden with the 3rd round pick you have to use the second rounder on Heath. That means you take a 3rd/4th player with a second round pick. Collingwood used your logic and took Oborne with Davis. They have to decide whther the lesser player is worth a second pick and look at who might be available for the second round pick.

Pehaps they could take Brayden with the 3rd round and draft Heath with a 4th round pick. Maybe they should trade a player in order to upgrade a 4th round to a 3rd round to secure Heath with a 3rd round pick.

Purely semantics isn't it MarkT?

We want both players.
Braydon is worth a round two pick.
Heath is worth a third round pick.
Which way around we get them doesn't really matter does it?
We will be using our 2nd and 3rd round picks on them anyway.

No, it is much more than semantics. You take the best player with your first choice and that appears to be Brayden with the 3rd round pick. The idea is that he is at least a 3rd round pick and the bonus is the family thing. You then look at the next option and is Heath a 2nd round pick. Who else is likely to be available with that pick? i have grave doubts Heath will be the best option. I would love to see all the Shaws, Clokes, Monkhurts etc at Collingwood. We have to make realistic decisions though. I hope like hell the lesser Shaw (which ever one that is) is worth a second round pick and we get them both. The comparrison is not Brayden with 3 and Heath with 2 or vice versa, it is the former v Brayden with 3 and player x with 2. In other words is player x better than Heath.

Mark T. The question isn't about who else is around. It is about who they want on the list. From what I have heard they are both very good young players, so why wouldn't we want them? And as others have said earlier they are worth a second and third round pick respectively, and again if we are going to use two picks it doesn't matter which order they are.

And as to the question about who else is around, we don't know what picks we're going to have either. During trading period we could end up with extra picks anyway. And we still have the rest of this year before even worrying about that anyway.

Just my opinion.

I'd argue against your point (although it is ideal that we pay as little as possible), by providing an example:

In 2000, we used pick 19 to get Cloke. You could argue that he might have lasted through to the 3rd, maybe 4th round.

And, we may have gotten Coughlan and picked up Cloke in the 3rd round. Wouldn't that have been nice?!

But, who's to say that Judkins wouldn't have been of the same opinion as Sydney and gone for Luke Ablett ahead of Coughlan? And then Sydney got Jason Cloke!

Also, who's to say we wouldn't have picked up Ryan Lonie with that pick?

There are too many variables in the draft to start speculating. What if we leave Heath until the fourth round and he gets picked right before ours and we end up picking a project key who never makes it...and Heath does!

I think the only question to ask is, is Heath Shaw worth a third round pick. If the answer is yes, then snare them both.

Brayden is definitely worth a second round pick. As I have said elsewhere, he reminds me of Travis Johnstone in the way he moves and always seems to have a paddock of space. He is however more of a natural inside midfielder and will bulk up (unlike Johnstone). He has magnificent hands below the knees and good vision. I think given a bit of strength/bulking up, he will become a midfielder with an all round solid game ala Scott Burns.

I think Shaw is worth a very late first - early second round pick and we will be using a late second (hopefully the latest one possible ;)).

Is Heath worth a late third round pick...stay tuned. Colin Wisbey from Hotrod's reckons he has improved out of sight and is continuing to improve. He would have made the Vic Metro side if not for injury.

I can see Mark's point.

Just because we can get Brayden cheap with a third round pick, doesn't mean we should pay over the odds on Heath.

From all reports Heath has made great improvement so far this season, and hopefully he can continue to do so. If so he might be regarded as worthy of a second round pick. If not then it may be that the club needs to make the hard decison and either trade a player for a third round pick if this is where the club considers his worth to be (and hope he is still available) and keep the second round pick.

It depends on where we finish. If we finish high, a 2nd round pick is practically a third round pick and a third is practically a fourth. Thus worth the deal.

It will be interesting to see what the Club does. My money will be on securing them both.

Assuming the clubs take both under f/s (which I believe it will), does it matter to anyone here, and do you think it matters to the club which order it happens in?

I have a dream. 2 bargains named Shaw to join their brother/cousin.

I really hope we get both but we have to practical as well. 3 Shaws & 3 Clokes would be awesome though.

I agree Mark, but getting an early-mid second rounder for a (hopefully very late) third round pick would be great.

But I don't see how speculating on Heath getting through to a late fourth round pick will be "practical".

His stats of late have been almost up to Brayden's stats and from some track watchers at the Knights say that Heath's ability is growing exponentially.

Late fourth rounders are very iffy and it would be my contention that Heath will be worth a late third round pick.

Again, I haven't seen Heath play and if the club decides he isn't worth a late third round pick, then I hope they open up the second round pick and bet on Heath being available in late fourth or fifth round.

In my dream we have 4 Monkhorsts and a Daicos-Freeman as well.

My dream is:

CHB Cam Cloke
HBF Jason Cloke
CHF Travis Cloke

With all of them playing key roles in 2 to 4 pie flags. The flags will be great but the look on Tige supporters face will be priceless!

On the Monkey kids, they will be seriously tough and if they are like their old man they will be late developers and may not show much until they are 16-17. At 6 6 Damien was playing full forward for Worri U15 and not doing much.
