Carlton is in a catch 22. I have no confidence in our current board and if a ticket is established by those who have left the club today then I will have no confidence in that either. All of these problems were created by our current board and the so called solutions are factions of the same group. It’s bordering on insanity.

The independent nominations commitee for the Carlton Board needs to go because it is not producing quality board members
The club would be no worse served by a fully democratic process for roles where the constitution defines the candidates by function.

Wonder if Craig will be replaced by Bruce on the board?

My inital thought when I read Sayers email last week was that this quote wouldn't age well. But I now think I understand why he said it, and why he's doubled down on it today.

I think the board has known for some time that there's not a single assistant coach at our club that is ready to be a senior coach, even in caretaker capacity. Not one of our assistant coaching group has ever been considered for a senior coaching role elsewhere. None are rated highly externally. And sacking Voss to appoint any of them would arguably leave us in worst shape in the short-term. This makes it pretty easy to double down on Voss when you've got no other choice.

2023 is a complete write-off. I suspect the board has known it for awhile. Now we all know. Let's just hope that change is coming at year end.
Hansen was if I recall requested to participate in GWS coaching process but declined and even asked to go for the Pies role prior to joining us.... a lot of those in the industry believe he's a coach in waiting.

Edit: Hansen did win us a game in the caretaker capacity when Voss was out last year against the Dogs.

He's also our forward coach and it's obvious how horribly dysfunctional and broken that is.

Tom Elliot would only be getting in on name recognition, and because of his father's time at the club. He also has a bit of an axe to grind, and some of the stories of how unfair people were to his dad, it all feels a little Trump-esque. Having an Elliot in charge again would definitely not unify the club and fan base.
I'd rather grass roots Joe Blow than the perception of our blank cheque old days.
The day that Tom Elliot gets on the board at the club is the day I cancel my membership. I do not want him anywhere near the club. He would claim to be a uniting figure, but in reality he would tear the club apart going after everyone who was "mean" to his dad after his dad dropped us right in the shit.

Craig Mathieson stepping down from our Board.
Good... don't let the door hit you on the arse Mathieson. And take your dickhead uncle with you when you leave.

This gets back to the main symptom of our malaise. Nearly everyone is better when they’re at another club than they are at Carlton.

Hansen = great at the Dogs, hopeless at Carlton
Teague = great at the Crows, hopeless at Carlton
Swan = great at Collingwood and the Lions, hopeless at Carlton
Buttifant = great at Collingwood, hopeless at Carlton
Liddle = great at Richmond, hopeless at Carlton
Voss = great at Port, hopeless at Carlton
Russell = great at hawthorn, hopeless at Carlton
Power = great at the academy, hopeless at Carlton
Cook = great at Geelong and a West Coast, hopeless at Carlton

You could also extend to players, where I would argue both Judd and Betts had better careers externally than they did at Carlton. In fact, a better question might be: name someone in the past twenty years who has been better at Carlton than they were their previous club? You will come up with some (Heath Scotland, Lewis Young), but I am betting it won’t be many.

The only discernible legacy of President Log was to destroy the democratic process re. our board.

He assured us he wouldn't be immediately did abuse this system (three years ago) and it will happen again now. The change to our constitution to create a 3 person nominations committee should have been voted on in isolation by the members. It wasn't because the Log is shifty as a sh!thouse rat and he packaged it up with other changes. He tried the same trick again last year to extend the maximum tenure of board members but Sayers walked away from it at the last minute.
