Breaking news: Carlton release Chris Bryan

Let's just take a deep breath, step back and take a look at the situation:

The fact the club only offered him a 1yr contract in light of our current ruck situation is indicative of what they think of him as a player, and his limited future.

Why offer a 2nd/3rd string player a 2yr deal when he hasn't been able to prove himself at a club which has finished at the bottom of the ladder?

IMO drafting the Berger isn't the answer unless he is deemed the best available, as it's unlikely he would have had an impact next year anyway, so our impending rotation is still unaffected.

Pick up a ruckman who's ready to go (as back up), pick up a young ruck with 19 or 35, then continue to develop Aisake and hope for the best (for now!).

Lance has rucked in defence before, JK is being trained in the ruck and Kouta can sill pinch hit around the ground...all we need is a contest if we can nullify the opposition ruck 8 times out of 10 we'll be doing well in the short term.

Not having an A-grade ruck makes it hard to win a flag...but we're not really competing for a flag yet, we can still be competitive and win games with a good midfield.

Obviously the current ruck situation isn't ideal, however nor is it the end of us, there are still more positives than negatives moving forward - maintain the passion!!!

Great argument. That's exactly my attitude.

I'll ask again

Why is our list bereft of any developing ruckmen?

We've been forced to plug so many gaps something had to give, and it was the ruck.

So many questions could be asked of our past recruitment policies, I'm just happy that in the last couple of years we've done ok and will hopefully continue to improve as of tomorrow!

We had our chances to pick up a ruckman in 2004 and we went for Russell and Hartlett. Back then we had so many holes and probably thought Frenchy would play until he was 32 or something like that.

This year we've lost tall players, not ruckmen, ther's a difference. So Batson, French, Deluca and Bryan all go, we keep McLaren and Aisake, and recruit Ackland. Batson could not make the Bullants, Deluca couldnt ruck and lost interest and Bryan, despite that, onlyplayed 5 games. So we've gone from 1 good old tryer (French), 2 backups (mcLaren and Bryan), 1 forward (deluca) and 2 developing players (Asiake and Batson) to having 1 younger tryer (Ackland), 1 backup (McLaren) and 1 developing player + whoever we take in the draft.

Weve still got holes across the lists so just add this to it. but Ackland, Mclaren + Aisake by the end of the year will just have to do.

This could be a positive in some way guys. It may give Aisake and whichever ruck we recruit in the draft more of a chance to play footy for the bullants ones.

Good point...Aisake probably would have played a little more last year had the side not been constantly filled with Maclaren, DeLuca, Prenderghast, Bryan...all of which are/were iffy long-term prospects.

it's a good thing, every time a dud leaves the club it can only be good. it's the players coming in you should be worried/excited about.
