Re: Brendan Fevola

  • THE Brisbane Lions hired security guards to spy on bad-boy recruit Brendan Fevola when he joined mates at the pub for a farewell to Melbourne. The Sunday Mail can reveal that two security officers were paid to sit discreetly nearby while Fevola and former teammates, including Carlton captain Chris Judd, caught up over a few beers.

Fevola was not aware of the security presence until his teammates asked who the men were, sources said.

It is understood Fevola then made a phone call and was told the men were security, hired by Lions coach Michael Voss to make sure no one hassled Fevola.

The low-key catch-up by Fevola and about 15 mates on November 7 lasted about six hours, with the group gathering at Sandringham's Beach Hotel for drinks and to bet on horse racing.

Fevola vividly recalls his first official day of training with the Brisbane Lions at last month’s Noosa Training Camp.

“I thought it was going to be all nice and rosy until we headed down to the Noosa beach and carried this massive rope up sand dunes,” he said.

“There were about 10 blokes who brought up their breakfast - I’ve never seen so many guys spew before.”

“It was a nice little shock on my first day of training and one of the hardest sessions I have ever done.”

Fev also talks about trade week and how that compared to when he was first drafted in 1998.

Re: Brendan Fevola

I like how it's "game worn" but "new".

Never mind that Fev hasn't and won't wear that style of jumper.

Further down the description:
BRAD SCOTT'S GAME WORN 2006 PLAYER ISSUE GUERNSEY. THIS NUMBER WILL NOW BE WORN BY "BAD BOY" BRENDAN FEVOLA. I PURCHASED THIS DIRECTLY FROM THE BRISBANE LIONS. SIZE IS MENS LARGE, MEASURES APPROX. 54CM ARM PIT TO ARM PIT AND 74CM LONG.
So . . . yeah, probably falls under a Jedi Truth

Brown said new recruit Brendan Fevola was setting the pace at training.
"He’s looking in good shape," Brown said. "He thinks he’s done more running so far than he’s ever done at Carlton."

Re: Brendan Fevola

Hahaha, Hope someone directs the Carlton supporters to that article.

Fev is an absolute star.....and will be for 3 more years

Are you good enough to win a premiership in that time??

If we don't, that doesn't make it a failure.

Was Matthew Richardson a mistake for the Tigers because they never won a flag with him? Buckley for Collingwood? Skilton for South Melbourne? Harvey for St Kilda? Judd for Carlton? (Yes, I went there).

The high-profile couple are now living in the up-market Brisbane suburb of Hawthorne. Industry experts were surprised the family did not set up in more plush surroundings, considering the AFL star earns close to $1 million a year through marketing and endorsements as well as his playing contract.

It seems Fevola, who was traded to the Brisbane Lions in disgrace after his drunken Brownlow Medal night antics, remains a star at Carlton, featuring twice in the calendar. It is Fev's face that has caused a drop in sales of the $24.99 calendar, according to AFL Stores contacted by The Sunday Age.

Blues' spokesman Ian Coutts said Fevola's appearance had nothing to do with the club, confirming it was the responsibility of the official AFL supplier. ''They don't wait until trade period is over,'' Mr Coutts said.

Re: Brendan Fevola

I loved Fev when he was at Carlton, and whilst I still think we did the right thing in trading him, very hard to see him in a jumper other than the Navy Blue.

He will make us pay for trading him . He should still be in a Carlton jumper specially after all the latest fiasco's involving players at the club. Finally people are blaming the leaders at the club for the drinking problems. They should have also been blamed for Fevola because there too soft.

Re: Brendan Fevola

Came 1st in the biggest moves of 09.

1 - Brendan Fevola to the Brisbane Lions
The end of Brendan Fevola's career at Carlton was so sudden and dramatic that many supporters still can't quite believe he is gone. The club's spearhead and the 2009 Coleman Medallist, Fevola became a pariah at the Blues after cutting a drunken swathe through Brownlow festivities. Branded a public disgrace - not for the first time - and copping a $10,000 fine from the club, he was offered for trade on the Monday of the exchange period. The week was one of footy's most compelling, with several clubs interested and a deal with the Lions appearing to fall through as late as Thursday evening. Not until deadline day did the Lions throw in a draft pick and Lachie Henderson, and finally strike a deal.

Yeah, know how you feel....felt the same seeing Aker in a Bulldogs jumper!

Will also be hard watching Bradshaw in a Swans jumper..

Re: Brendan Fevola

Nothing unusual about Fev being in Carlton's 2010 calendar.

They are paying a hefty chunk of his salary next year... may as well get something for it. ;)

Not even half his salary ..if you can call that hefty then goodluck ....Fev looks pretty ordinary in that jumper ..but then again anyone who changes the famous Blue jumper looks ordinary . ;)

Low six-figures is my mail. Pretty hefty for a bloke on another team's list.

Thanks for subsidizing it. May have been the difference in us keep another player. Who knows. :)

BRICKBATS TO ...

BRENDAN FEVOLA
A man who seems hell-bent on following the Andrew Symonds template is Brendan Fevola, who managed to run out of lives at his beloved Carlton Football Club and is now preparing for his new career at the Brisbane Lions.
