Purple hack is not to blame, it's not a troll. There was a handshake agreement in July between Ross and BJ, not sure why this has changed but seems we were close.

Seriously?

Should he have put in a humourless photoshop to impress you? Substance can come from the resulting responses as much as the original content - as has been proven in this case. This OP had much more on offer than the endless "sack Zac" or "MJ sucks and points too much" stuff you've rolled out in the past. Certainly more interesting than another photo of you standing next to the latest sock you had signed by Nat Fyfe.

Careful you don't do an ankle climbing down from the pedestal you've put yourself on. This place is hard enough to enjoy without harmless fun like the OP being censured based on pointless hubris.
Well don't you look like a knob.

Should have closed the thread when you originally threatened to, Seppo.

He gonna have to sell his house and cancel his golf membership now.

Haha, actually its membershipS I believe ;)

Seriously, though I was never convinced we were a certain thing, I think it's reasonable to think that we were a good shot. He's not moved to the Dons on the cheap that's for sure and I'm sure our money would have been close, but clearly he liked the idea of staying Melbourne when all was said an done.

As it is I'm glad we didn't go throwing that much money at him. I don't think he would have been THE difference that sort of marque player money would have been worth.

I'm pretty happy we kept Clarke, with his athleticism, it'll click one preseason and we'll all wonder where this great player came from. He didn't quite have the size this year to make a big impact, but he certainly improved on previous seasons. Looking forward to see what he can put together with another preseason and another 5kg. Have a look at his highlight package in the WAFL late in the season, he's capable of chase downs, dummying midfielders, breaking tackles but just doesn't have the size yet to do it at AFL.
I think they're talking bout Mitch clake, and you are talking about Zac clark....

Interesting article. Watters saying it was all about the money

http://www.watoday.com.au/afl/afl-n...ey-watters-lashes-goddard-20121002-26wa1.html

The Saints had the chance to match the Bombers' offer — believed to be worth about $2.9 million over four years — but decided against doing so, which meant Goddard yesterday joined Essendon as a restricted free agent.
I thought Freo's reported offer was $3.4million over 4 years so if it was all about the money then this doesnt make sense to me

Seriously, you'd have to be either insanely optimistic or borderline ******ed to think Goddard was ever coming to Freo. Especially after the coaches explicitly said he wasn't.

He took the best Melbourne offer.
GWS could've (& would have) ponied up even more than you.

I understand he took the best Melbourne offer (and am not whinging that we didnt get Goddard) but if the decision was purley based on money (as Watters says) then the Freo offer is the better offer.

I'd expect that Watters was talking about why he left the Saints for the Bombers. The other suitors (i.e. us, GWS) weren't really part of the consideration. If he wanted to go to a club with a chance of success over the next few years he'd pick us or the Dons. If he wanted to stay in Melbourne there was only the Dons or Saints.

He'll make a pretty big difference to the Dons side, and they were doing well before the rash of soft tissue leg injuries. More cash and a better chance of lifting a cup than he'll likely have at the Saints. Makes sense.
