He has been somewhat of a forgotten man on these boards this off-season.

I think he can still be a very valuable player on the half forward line. He adds some serious unpredictability into our team, and IMHO it was playing with injuries in 2007, rather than being on the downward slide, that resulted in some mediocre performances.

Where do people see him fitting into our line-up in 2008?

One of our best when fully fit. Borderline matchwinner. Unfortunately, getting a bit old. Gee, time flies. Doesn't seem that long ago that he just missed out on the rising star award to Goodes.

I think he will do alright next Season, he was playing injured this season, especially early on, he was being played to take one of the oppositions defenders out of the play, if you watch alot of our games this year, especially early ones where he played you will notice that he does in fact stay out of play as best he can, only getting involved when he had to.

How well this tactic worked is unclear.

I reckon he will replace Welsh at FF but the problem is his kicking doesnt compare to Welsh. He missed some sitters this year at crucial times, the games against Freo and Geelong come to mind. I dont think either shot were more than 15 metres out.

Some teams have a bit of trouble matching up on him, which is always good. I hate when people use this term, but he has the "x-factor". When in form he's awesome to watch. I'm looking forward to seeing him play as a full time forward next year and the inevitable mark-of-the-year contender he'll dish up to us.

Hopefully he can find some fitness and form early and get back to the damaging player we know he can be. In one of the other threads a few weeks back many posters seemed to think Burton would begin to be pahsed out late this season. I still se him as a pretty valuable player, but it is critical that he gets his fitness right. Also needs to work on some of his brain fades when he does very frustrating things. If this can be done I still believe he should be one of the first selected each week.

When watching the telly for the elmination final they said Brett Burton was our X factor I almost rolled over and died.

i think his superior fitness would be wasted at FF and therefore would be best suited to a half forward flank.. start the year off with mcgregor at FF, and hopefully have tippett playing a few games there by the end of the year

^ so u all want burton and FF and have gill at CHF.. can see this being a long.. long.. incredibly inaccurate year!

If my memory serves me correctly Burton kicked 40 something goals from FF one year. Gill is strangely more accurate from 50m and i think I have heard him say this in interviews as well.

Here says everytime he marks the ball he goes back 50m's and has a shot. Can be his trademark. haha

He should be playing at HFF. Very valuable player on his day, but he's not unpredictable in both a good and bad sense. He also needs to a solid spine around him to really shine. It allows to to take advantage of his strengths, his stamina and athleticism.

Will have a much much better 2008.

Yea I get ya (:
He might be able to slip in there for a while, I would like to see some youngsters try FF

Suffers from what I like to call Wild Donkey Syndrome:D

Really also depends how Hentschel recovers and weather the AFC want to play him forward or back.

Brett Burton can be a great player... and he's very fit... and he even has the X-factor - but he's just not quite reliable enough in general play to be "great"; HFF is perfect for him, working around a "solid spine" as KUNG FU said. We just need to put together a solid spine... Truck, Bock, ??, ??, ??

Do you guys reckon Bock will play CHB all year?... like many others have said he has the potential to be an AA CHB

Is it just me or does nobody else like Brett Burton? He wil never be star player due to his inconsistency. Aparently he has the 'X-factor' and i admit he has it if u call jumping on some guys back 5 seconds before the ball reaches the contest and then giving away a free kick. He is just too frustrating.

I think you are being way to harsh. I would have him in my team any day. I just hope his knees are still up to it.

He's one of the reasons I watch footy! I love me some birdman.

Our understanding is that the club thinks along the same lines as you, but it seems that Bock himself prefers to play up forward.
