That is true , when Richo retired he was a universally admired legend of the RFC , as you rightfully say many scoffed at his Petulance early on that won him few admirers outside RFCLittle forgotten point, Richo was not always the affable and all-encompassing great and giving guy he is now ...... he needed a good few kicks up the behind in his earlier days in regards to treating fans, particularly after losses (which did a fair bit of back then).
He had to be taken aside a few times by Peter Schwab (who was our reserves coach back then) and mentored on how to interact with fans and taught that even if you lose by 70 points, the fans want an autograph and a chance to say hi. Fortunately Richo learned quickly and became the superstar person he is today.
Makes you wonder, if Lids was supposedly so surly, ungracious or downright rude to fans, why wasn't this addressed in his 12 years at Tigerland, why was it not addressed??? Probably speaks more about the lack of leadership during the bulk of his time that no one pulled him up on it and left him to his own devices.

According to Geelong fans that would be a lot of additional animals that day.
