Richmond are about the furthest away from finals of the teams that finish outside the top 8, and could have quite a few more years in the wilderness, especially when you consider GC17 & then Western Sydney will have access to the best kids over the next few years.

Hardwick will also cut through the list pretty hard, and even Richo wouldn't be safe for next year. They were hopeless last night, and spanked by a West Coast side minus their two best players - Cox & Kerr.

No club is going to give up their best player for a handful of mediocre picks and players. ....

It could be that or get nothing and he walks to the PSD. I think he'll stay at Richmond even though he despises the place. The Tiges have completely butchered his development, and he's now stuck on the worst list in the AFL with no future. Must be a little depressing. :)

When you blokes were on the bottom & winning wooden spoons did any of the young guns want to just walk out ? Be pretty dissapointed if he just walked out when we need him most.A fair bit of Carlton's rise is due to the the fact you were down & received good draft picks etc so i wouldn't be patting yourselfs to hard on the back.& with the psd thing,do you think he would really want to go to a club in a simular situation to us ?

My first reaction was we don't need him, but on second thoughts he could add the pace we need.

But he'd cost us way too much I'd have thought, both in terms of picks and money.

Forgeddabowdit.

Richmond have actually received way way more draft picks than the Blues. The problem is you keep stuffing them up, and trading them away for dud's. The other problem is the Tiges diabolical player development, and truly shocking coaching appointments. So your ongoing failure is no accident. The Tiges bottomed out with the Hawks, and the Hawks jumped past them. The Tiges bottomed out with the Blues, and now the Blues have jumped passed them. And now the Tiges have bottomed out with the Dees, and the Dees look like jumping past them. See the pattern? The AFL could give you 6 top-20 picks and you'd still stuff them up somehow. The decade's ending and you have the worst list in the AFL by a considerable margin. You need to ask yourself WHY. Deledio has, and that's why he's trying to find a way out of the place. :)

Coming from Kyabram myself, I have a soft spot for him, but after seeing him in last nights game, I'm not that keen. He is very much an outside player(can't/won't get his own ball) and I think we would have to pay too much for him.

We need KPP, Post is about the only guy from Richmond I would be interested in. Not likely but.

He'd be 4th maybe in our midfield list, so wouldn't get a tag. If he was at the Blues he'd play more on the wing. But it would take a massive development effort to get the defensive side of his game up to scratch though. He has no idea what to do when he doesn't have the pill and has never played in a team with a structure or gameplan. Happy to give up say pick 12-15, but no more. :)

That's not actually true. I generally compare our draft picks from 2004 onwards, with Frawley's stupid trades and your clubs draft restrictions. It's when both clubs really started getting picks to rebuild.

Since then Carlton have had picks 1,1,1,3,6,9 inside the top 10 (excluding Walker) and and a number of others outside the top 10.

Richmond have had picks 1,2,4,8,8,8 inside the top 10 as well as others outside.

Although they may have had a similar number of picks the quality of picks Carlton have had has been much greater and have had access to the cream of the draft on more occasions.

Since Rawlings moved Lids on the ball permanently and gave him a talking too (about 2 months ago) he has averaged about 5 tackles a game. His last six weeks include 7,6,6,2,7 and 9 last night. He's managed to win 36 clearances over those 8 games too (including 6 against Carlton), so it's a myth that hes soft and can't win his own ball.

So 28 disposals and 9 tackles weren't good enough? Was never an inside mid but has been forced to change his game with the injuries to Foley and Cotchin. He has all the attributes to become an elite mid and over the last 10 weeks has been amazing. Would be a massive loss.

Good points there, don't hold your breath for an acknowledgement that maybe she got something wrong.

Do you actually think his performance had any impact on the game? Both him & Cousins had the most disposals in the game, yet Richmond only managed 6 goals for the game, including only 1 in the second half.

You need to be careful not to totally rely on statistics to give you an idea on how well a player has performed. Neither Deledio or Cousins had an impact on the game, which tells you something about their 28 disposals.

Not sure. He's been a disappointing #1 pick. Never really been that good in the middle. Plays more on the wing or flanks. It would take 12 months at least to re-coach him and bring his game up to scratch after the damage the Tiges have done. Wouldn't be offering anything too excessive. If he does bail, I suspect Blues would be his first choice. :)

love ya work parrot :thumbsu:

You have got to be kidding. If you watched the game, you would of noticed Lids and Cuz were the only two working hard in and out of the contest. I'm not relying on statistics at all when analysing Deledio's game last night. He was far and away our best player in a terrible team performance. Deledio didn't have a huge impact because most his disposals were handballs out of the congestion. Without Cotchin and Foley, Lids has been doing alot of the contested work. Proof of this is his tackle count and contested disposals over the last 2 months.

So because we kicked 6 goals for the game it is a result of Cousins and Deledio's impact? What about the other 20 players that were dismal all night. If you go on the Tigers board you will see everyone has Lids and Cuz as our best, and rightly so, them and Edwards were probably the only players that were hard at it.

I could use your notion today and say that Gibbs had no impact because you's lost by 10 goals. Gibbs' game should be dismissed because the Blues got flogged. Kind of weird that when a team loses their best players get no credit. Deledio and Gibbs were both their teams best players and the result shouldn't determine the impact they have.

We have to stop getting into the habit of trying to buy success. It's where a lack of depth comes from. It puts too much of a strain on the bottom end and creates a lopsided list both in terms of depth and in regards to strengths and weaknesses.

It is no wonder we were struggling for ruckmen and now find ourselves short of tall options. We need to keep developing and also have a bit of luck with injuries.

I would agree with you that Gibbs had no impact on the result of our game. Gibbs, along with Walker & Scotland had in excess of 30 disposals, but none of them were as effective as Vince, 34 disposals, 3 goals or McLeod, 31 disposals, or Thompson, 28 disposals. Even Tyson Edwards with 24 disposals was more effect than the above-named Carlton players.

I watched the Eagles/Richmond game last night & felt that both Deledio & Cousins picked up too many possessions in the back half & from running behind/beside players who had taken a mark & then getting the hand-off. This inflates a player's stats & gives a false impression of the type of game a player has had.

Deledio is the most talented player on the Richmond list, but I believe the recruitment of Cousins this season has set back Deledio's development.

Prior to this season I thought Deledio was just about ready to take the mantle of Richmond's #1 midfielder, but because Cousins could only be run through the midfield, Deledio found himself pushed forward, sometimes even back, to allow Cousins to play in the midfield.

If Deledio stays at Richmond, Hardwick has to 'bite the bullet' & delist Cousins, otherwise Deledio's development will continue to be impeded.
