No this is a really innocent thread. No jumping down my throats.

The excitement of winning has decreased a little, and we know Jesse white was good but I'd like to discuss Meredith.

I would rate his game good for a debuter. Had limited opportunities when he was in the forward line in the first half that's how I see it. And when the goals were flowing he was in the midfield, yet he shanked a kickable one.
Had a goal assist I think.

Can't say I see him as a crumber and at 181cm his not tall for a forward, His got a good kick and I would like Roos to persist with him in the midfield.

Was he good enough to maintain the spot in the 22? Would you saw his better than Barlow who must be eyeing that spot.
And not sure how long that Buchanen injury is either.

Thoughts?

(Okay, one not innocent thought, He looks soo freaking damn attractive in shorts)

YOU'VE picked a good one, young lady.

He looked slick, he made good decisions generally, he can deliver accurately by hand and foot (esecpailly by foot) and best of all he looked so composed, no hint of panic even under some real pressure.
He just looked at home out there, great stuff and a really good debut.

haha. hopefully ive picked one that'll be around for a looooong time!

unlike sean dempster.. *Cries.

Agreed, looked very solid, even the commentators were saying how he was actually kicking remarkably well.

I'd like to see him get another go next week, but he'd need to improve on last night's showing for him to get the call up the week after. Whilst that effort was good for a first game against the reigning premiers, in a game next week where we SHOULD win, against an inexperienced-ish team, he needs to get a bit more of the ball and possibly kick a goal to get another call up. Then again, who knows, its all about the pressure from the reserves. If Barlow doesn't stand up and Monty's injured, then there's no one challenging him and he gets a free ride.

I would like to see Meredith play next week a he showed some promising signs as he seems to have a good football brain aswell as a accurate kick.

It would be nice to actually have a accurate kicker in our midfield to pin point the forwards.

Meredith will play for the Swans for many years to come (yes i do believe that) so it would would be nice to see Meredith play next week.

In the longer term he'll be in the midfield, but this year he will play almost exclusively in the forward line, kind of like the role Schmidt put in in 2007. In a strange way this will be better for his development as he will spend more TOG (anyone have stats on last night?) rather than sitting on the bench for long stretches like Bird did last year.

Would you agree he looks good in the shorts too Stat :p

Why would you be thinking of removing Meredith?
Based on the two matches so far, Meredith woould be entitled to feel ripped off if he's cut and replaced by either Buchanan or Barlow. Meredith got his call-up, did the job, what more do you want? It's up to the other blokes to earn their places back.

And please PLEASE let's not start talking about games we should and should not win. I'd have thought, again, the first two games of the season show the folly of doing that.
Injuries may force changes next week; let's hope they don't start tinkering with the team for other reasons.

All I'm saying is I expect him to play even better next week.

too much is expected of kids nowadays.... just let him play, and take away the expectation

however saying that.... he had a very composed game with decent effectiveness, enough to warrant another oppotunity.....

but he also had 0 tackles to his name and the majority of his possessions were non-contested.... so an obvious area to work on

I believe in his junior days he was known for his contested ball. I am sure we'll see plenty of it going forward.

The club obviously hold Meredith in high esteem when you consider he missed nearly all 2008 through injury. He has not played a lot of football in the past 12-18 months, and thus we may see some fairly rapid improvement in the seniors. (if given the opportunity)

I don't think he has the stamina to be in the midfield for extended periods of time, but I would like to see Roos give him 5 minute bursts.

Enjoyed what I saw of him last night. Attacked the ball and hit his targets. Was patchy but it was his first game and he will play next week and get a fair few games this year imo. Just the one missed mark where the opponent marked from behind and turned over a goal but overall his determination is excellent and with that spark should improve across the weeks ahead.

I didn't realise he hadn't been playing much over the last 18 months. In that case treat him like a Pyke who actually grew up with the game. Stick him in for the last 21 games barring injury no matter what and next year out will pop the Bird we saw last week and to a lesser extent tonight.

He is so. frickin. HOT!!!!!!

Srsly, but, after my second viewing of the match with the ability to pause and such, what impressed me about him was how he always found himself time. It was great to watch him draw a defender and give off an unhurried, no-rush kick which hit the target.

High hopes.:thumbsu:
