When I was watching our pitiful performance last week, they were talking about Brian Lake coming out of contract this year and apparently there is 4 Victorian clubs trying to sign him. I would imagine we would be in the race. This would be an incredible signing and would make our defense so much better. What would we need to give up to the Dogs?

Brad Fisher would be someone we would try to off load to them but they would be after Fev in which they are NO chance to get him.

Brian lake would fit in very well down back for us! Love to see him playing in the Carlton jumper but i seriously cant see him leaving the Dogs.
 
It would make sense at a glance...but I would imagine Lake is a single position player. He doesn't have the motor (so it seems) to go with the mobile CHF's and is most comfortable closest to goal. Hutchy, that well of accurate information, reported he was currently on $180K which seems barely believable...probably going to bring $400+ on an open market you would think.

I would have thought Jamo has FB sewn up in our side for as long as he continues to perform....he certainly hasn't done anything to suggest he won't be a very good FB. Like Lake he seems most comfortable closest to goal...perhaps he could play out of a pocket?

Or maybe just maybe Lake is one of the three million players that will be talked about on this board between now and trade time but in all likelihood will stay put exactly where he is.

They would want our first round pick (10ish).... I don't know if that's worth it.

Athough Lake would look great in our backline.

My Bad i should of worded my post better. Fish would be apart of any trade we did with them ( I didnt mean Fish alone or a straight swap) as for what else would be thrown is a complete guessing game but i wouldnt want our top pick this year which will be around the No. 9 - 12 mark to be any part of it.

All, Hypotheticals though at this stage and the Dogs will Re Sign him.

1st round draft pick and say a simpson or a bower or something
lake is absolutely quality and would be worth every cent!

No chance I'd be giving up that!

Bower could end up better than Lake.

I would say pick 10 alone is a fair value trade.

The factor that might get the deal done could be the doggies reluctance to pay Lakes new contract.
 
i friend from SA said that the rumors are that Brian Lake and Farren Ray want to go back home. But Bryce Gibbs dad said that he wants to a 5 year contract with Carlton. He loves the club and wants to stay. One of his best mates works down so its all good:thumbsu:

He is 27 years old and therefore wouldn't be value for money for a 1st rnd draft pick IMHO.

can honestly advise you, brian lake will not be coming to carlton as a carlton official explained to me last week for two reasons
1 - his price tag
2 - does not fit in our youth policy

Let's say by some miracle we do get him (I don't think he'll even consider leaving the dogs, just wants a better paycheck), who out of Bower, Waite, Thornton, Jamison and Austin misses out on selection?

We can't play them all and go too top heavy down back, we need someone to play on the crumbing defenders. Even if we put Waite forward, we still need more than one 'small' defender.

I just think we should develop what we got because there's some great potential in our backline and it's not nearly as bad as everyone says it is.

I think out of all the games we've leaked goals, our midfielders are to blame for not applying enough defensive pressure allowing easy delivery to the opposition forwards.
 
We not that desperate for key backmen.
We have Jammo, Thornton, Bower, Austin! (and Setanta and Waite as backups, but more forward)
Whilst Thornton is a bit older. the other 3 are good chances of becoming long servants of the CFC.
Try and steal Maguire but other than that lets go with what we have.
