There are very few songs you could pin the label "brilliant" on.

I'm not talking about very good or great songs, I'm talking about pure brilliance, whether you define that by songwriting, originality or musicianship.

What, in your opinion, are songs worthy of being classified brilliant?

not a song, but the "dark side of the moon" album is THE MOST BRILLIANT album ever!! and im only 22, go figure!!

in terms of songs, well with over 170gig of music, its kinda hard to label songs brilliant. Depends on what mood im in. I'll be listening to The Floyd one minute, then Pearl Jam, then something like Linkin Park.... too many songs to filtrate too

Most definately brilliant!

Rush: Spirit of Radio. Untouchable. This song has everything you'd ever want from a song: the musicianship in the intro (and song in general) is mindboggling, it's catchy as f*ck, it has an awesome lead break, reggae section, interesting and intelligent lyrics, amazing groove, even a big Rock ending. What more could you want?

if you haven't already, get pink floyds album, the piper at the gates of dawn, i think its much better then dark side of the moon.

I'm 23 and just getting into them. :)

Serious posts only thankyou.

Would have to agree with Bohemian Rhapsody and November Rain.
Go listen to the song.

Unless songs like that get a mention then this thread will just become another boring thread to name great songs.

Maybe I haven't heard it enough but I'm struggling to get into Piper. It's an acquired taste, but I'll give it a go because many people rate it highly.

I hate mentioning 'obvious' songs as much as the next person, but Bohemian Rhapsody is truly what you would class as brilliant. Great lyrics, beautifully structured, and catchy no matter how many times you hear it.

A few more that haven't been mentioned (but probably will again):
Beach Boys - God Only Knows
The Beatles - While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm
George Harrison - Isn't It a Pity

Count me as one of those that rate it very highly. Piper is a piece of inspired musical genius and the best thing Floyd ever did IMO. Not that the DSOTM etc aren't great though, just that Piper is from another galaxy.

Syd barret floyd were the only true rivals to the Beatles.

1. Darkside of the moon
1.5 The piper at the gates of dawn

DAYLIGHT
MORE DAYLIGHT

Anything else

that my opinion anyway

Having said that i have listened to DSOTM lots more than the piper. Whilst still a great album, i dont think i will ever top DSOTM. Its a masterpeice from start to finish
