AFL FANS starved of football were offered some hope at Visy Park on Friday morning with the highly competitive training session put on by Carlton a sure sign that the season is just around the corner.

For nearly two and a half hours Brett Ratten instructed, encouraged and admonished his players through a series of full-contact competitive drills that left the coach satisfied at the end of the first week of training after the Christmas break.

"It was a good session. It was good to get the bulk of the group together and have a really competitive hitout," he said.

Can most certainly vouch for that, as I went along to training this morning, and what I saw was a pretty impressive, high intensity training session. One thing I did notice was how far our foot skills have come on since last season. The players were hitting many more targets, and you can see Ratts' emphasis on foot skills is starting to show through.

Thats great news HBF i cant tell you how frustrating it is when we turn the ball over with poor foot skills while under pressure. Especially coming out of the Backline.

Just a question on Yarran , Did he train? If so how did he look? He did have a minor hand injury IIRC.

Cheers Chism :)

Well said HBF. I went down this morning myself and was very happy with the disposal. Geez some of these guys are looking awesome right now. Hammer has grown a heap and all the younger guys have put some much needed weight on there once small body frames. Cant wait for the season to kick off.

fev in with the injury group .....just a rest up? or did he do something? i got there half way through the session.

Read the article.

Brendan Fevola was confined to the rehabilitation group, but it was clearly just part of the club's cautious approach with the big spearhead, as he was heard to remark, "I wanted to train but they wouldn't let me."

its good to hear there hungry and there skills are getting better.

Looking at the training photos .... who the hell is Luke Russell?

I think it might be Jake but am not sure where they got the name from.

Luke Russell is one of the 2 AIS kids that has been training with us.
Okay, thanks. Tongue hanging out, looks a bit of a lair.

What's his position, height etc?

Maybe the caption writer got confused and isn't too sure who it is (actually I think he is one of the young elite group, from somewhere or the other)

Anyway, the way some of the boys here on BF bag Jordan Russell, I think you will find that the caption was meant to read 'Luke warm Russell'

There's a video of him being interviewd on CFC TV aswell as Stephem May:rolleyes:

Describes himself as being a midfielder. Mainly on the wing, loves to carry the ball. Can play inside and out. He mentions that he liked what he saw of Army, probably the same type of player. Intersting to note that he's a Tigers supporter yet wanted to come to Visy to train alongside Judd.
