Bringing the game into disrepute

Howdy all

Just want to whinge about the hypocracy that is the AFL.

Does anyone think GC Suns will face any sanctions over K.Hunt etc?

I mean Benny got banned for 12 months and never failed a test. The AFL have set a precedence for this kind of conduct and I hope they come down on the Suns the same way they would if, hypothetically, this was the Eagles in trouble (ignoring that we have prior form)

Our problems ran a lot deeper over a longer period, GC are yet to reach that same level.

Without question, but I reckon this draws more parallels to the Eagles 06/07 situation.

I think the game has suffered more disrepute from the Essendon PED's saga than Karmichael Hunt has caused.

I do agree that there seems to be some hypocrisy in the level of disciplinary outcomes given to some clubs compared to others.

Retiring before all the allegations surfaced removes a lot of the stigma For the GCS .

Its the AFL that brought Hunt into the game in the first place with their bulk cash. They are the ones who brought the game into disrepute.

I think that the Suns & the afl will be all over this- and will be dealt with as sensitively as possible. I would be very surprised if anyone else would get suspended, more likely a self report which will count as a strike but not reported to the media, and then counted when they tally at some point during the year. The Suns are still building into a very fickle market. A scandal the size of ours back in 06/07 would be devastating to the brand of the afl & the Suns in QLD. A lot of hard work & money has gone into this venture North, they won't want to ruin that.

I am unsure if there are any confirmed links to any other Suns player, certainly don't want to construe that at all. That's the worst part about this. The whole team gets tarnished over this.

I can imagine the report in the HS- 1 paragraph on the Suns, 5 paragraphs on Ben cousins and our premiership which was fuelled by drugs, and a throwaway line that our 92/94 flags were also tainted by PED's.

Wasnt he delisted at the end of last season? Still pretty fresh for mine.

But what can the AFL do? bringing the game into disrepute results in a banning from the game for a year, if we go off what Cousins copped, that doesn't really fit for campaigner. Can't punish the club either.

I've hardly read the campaigner story so i could be wrong, but from what I can tell it seems similar to Stokes where he just had a quantity that COULD be used for supply, but was probably for personal use.

"Monday 1st of September (the date of Hunt's alleged offence) was the date of the Suns' Mad Monday party. The Titans held their Mad Monday party the following Monday - the 8th."

Didn't Stokes of geelong get suspended for supplying Drugs ?

A couple of observations on the Coke drama.

* The former Origin and Australian rugby league champion Jason Smith stands accused of moving about 280g of the drug between June and December last year. The charges were a result of a six-month joint investigation between the Crime and Corruption Commission and the Darling Downs Tactical Crime Squad. Also charged with him was Jason Matthew Wood, 34. Smith has a pub in Toowoomba.

* K Hunt and Smith no doubt played together at some point; or at the very least knew each other..

* As a rule police would have given Smith and Wood a chance to get a lighter sentence with 'help' in their investigations...

* Jason Matthew Wood, 34 was also caught with Smith.

* Hunt had 280gm on him? 28gm is one oz. 280gm is 10 oz in the old scale. The old scale is the measurement used to sell drugs. 10 oz is 6 oz short of a pound. Ironically Smith also had 280 gm on him when caught. On both occaisions 6 oz had been 'moved' before police stepped in.

* Who did Hunts 6 oz go to?

* The NRL will be desperate for the SUNS to cop some mud from this due to the AFL vs NRL war on the GC. There will be pressure on NRL players, former and current, to name any AFL players they can.

* The Titans brand may now be unsalvageable, and a new franchise moved to Ipswich or Logan.

*There are all sorts of questions one could ask about some of our players, but I don't think any of them deserves having their name mentioned unless they get charged. I haven't read this thread yet, but I suspect some names have been brought up. Id refrain from that. There must be some devastated young, impressionable kids in our club that don't deserve people casting doubt on their character.
