Dokoic…

Yes her serve is horrendous, yes she choked big time, but man was she impressive.

First of all let me say what absolutely superb shape she is in, easily the best she’s looked since she’s been back playing. She has no troubles getting to balls now and staying in rallies isn’t a problem. She is still such a clean striker of the ball and she comprehensively outhit Mauresmo and had the better of the baseline duels. When the two were exchanging blows from the baseline more often than not Dokic got the best of it such was her power. Both forehand and backhand extremely solid.

Although she will be very, very upset at the loss, and it could potentially damage her confidence because she had so many chances, I think she will take an awful lot from the match. It’s only early in her comeback and yet she caused one of the best players on tour a great deal of trouble out there. On one hand I wish she had drawn an easier opponent because her standard of play today would have beaten the vast majority of the tour, she played that well. But on the other hand I’m glad she faced such strong competition because Mauresmo is a real tough player to come up against. She gives her opponent so many different looks, she’s always mixing things up, and she’s a smart player. So Dokic coming up against a player like this will be a terrific learning experience for her and I have no doubt she’ll be much better from playing the match.

She lost but I was extremely impressed. She’ll get a heap of wins this year just as long as she stays focused because one thing is for certain, the talent is still there! :thumbsu:

As for other matters, I was impressed with Stosur. She still has a tendency to go for too much and throw away games but she looked pretty solid and her second set was pretty faultless. With that serve, that ability to play at the net, it’s puzzling as to why she can’t get a better ranking. Maybe I’m overrating her but there’s no reason why she couldn’t beat most of the players on tour, on a consistent basis.

Camera angle is shocking. I love watching sporting telecasts in widescreen however due to the camera angle I’ve got to watch it in full screen to make it bearable. Awful; surely they thought about this beforehand? Can’t believe with a new stadium they don’t have Hawkeye, surely it couldn’t have been that difficult to implement? Atmosphere didn’t seem all that great, but there wasn’t a huge crowd so I’ll judge it when it’s more filled.

Ball boys very sluggish, don’t think they know the rules in a tiebreak. Seemed the players were waiting an eternity.

That Sam Smith commentator is very enjoyable to listen to! Griggs mentioned how she’ll be there for Brisbane and Sydney, but I sure hope she’s there for the Australian Open. Doubtful though considering they have signed Molik. After listening to Smith today, I know who I’d prefer…

Smith is only with Channel Seven for Brisbane and Sydney.

Good luck to Sirriani who fought through the Qualifying and plays Llodra this afternoon.

I thought Klein played alright in the second set. Blown away in the first set but was much more competitive after that.

Wasn't impressed with him one bit. He's an ok mover, not the best. His weapon is his forehand but he can't use it much against the better players because his backhand was shocking and he doesn't have that big of a serve. Will probably be a journeyman IMO. Might push into the top 100 for a year or 2 in his prime but he's not Australia's next great hope.

Yeah a fair assessment

is it? I mean predicting his ranking and all sounds pretty silly.

Yeah, but on his game he's right. I didn't see today's match but what i saw at AO didn't impress me much, and judging by Klein's results, he hasn't really improved.

She's hungry because she wants to win the match. Determined isn't she.

Was losing 5-1 and got up to win the first 7-6.
