Anybody know much about this chap? Saw him preseason 09 and looked promising. Must have been a rookie as he's gone the Dogs way and apparently starred yesterday. Was there no place for him with us? Another Scott Thompson (NM) type as far as WHY? I can't recall him actually leaving us.

We had to promote him to the senior list to retain him. He was a good to very good VFL player. If he can work his way into senior footy at the Bulldogs then good luck to him.

He is not a Scott Thompson.

But with the rookie rule change, did we? (I'm happy to stand corrected if wrong, I just didn't think we had to, which is why I didn't understand his delisting)

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't he play a NAB cup game for us last year? Looked out of his depth if it was him (or maybe it was Bedford a couple of years ago :o)

Any way, after seeing him in the VFL he looked like he would struggle with the intensity at AFL level with his kicking.

Got subbed on after half time in our game in Adelaide last year. Didn't look as composed as the other rookie out there (Laidler) but did alright, I think. In general I think the question is ceiling, is a good VFL player but has just turned 24 and is going into his fourth VFL season. Good luck to him at the Doggies but I don't think letting him go was a bad decision by the club.

Don't worry about him, has significant deficiencies including, perhaps most importantly, poor kicking skills.
This. Had a crack and found plenty of it, but was never up to AFL standard in disposal, especially in our game plan which requires precision passing.

It was Moles.I think he played a couple of NAB games and like Scott Simpson he looked like a rabbit in the headlights.

For the Doggie supporters reading this thread, I think Moles is better than he is being portrayed in this thread.

He can accumulate possessions, kick goals (from distance and I don't agree with the assessment that he's a poor kick generally) and doesn't mind the rough stuff.

I have seen him in a dozen or so VFL games and his biggest problem was that he was close to our most dangerous midfielder so he regularly got a tag and he didn't generally handle it well.

At 24 and with our midfield stocks already overflowing, it wasn't really an option for Geelong to promote him to the main list.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him do well at the Dogs. Good luck to him.

So what kind of player was he in the VFL?

Midfielder, although you could also put him around half forward.

Knows how to find plenty of it particularly in contested situations, but disposal is the problem. Probably not at the Tenace level of facepalming, but certainly needs some improvement to become a good AFL player.

You do make a good point. I don't think he's a dud and I still think there's a chance he'll make it, but no doubt his age counted against him (as well as being a mid).

I think if you can get him to settle down and move away from the party scene he could be a very handy player similar to Giansiracusa. He's got the talent and is a nice enough guy from all reports.

Was impressed with him yesterday.

We have a brilliant record of turning former VFL players into regulars. Morris, Boyd and Picken are the first three that spring to mind.

It would be awesome to add Moles to the list.

Certainly played well and looked a lot more comfortable than he did during his last NAB Cup outing - was strong in close, had quick hands and tackled well.

That said, still happy with the decision to let him go. Will provide the Doggies with useful midfield depth but given our current position I'd rather we were investing in kids.

Hogan will struggle for game time so I don't see any issue with letting him go.

 LOL

No...Hogan is a potential 200 gamer for us, which I doubt Moles would have been.

Hopefully we can keep him contracted and he doesn't leave.

You have misread it. If Hogan can't break into the midfield on a permanent basis then Moles had absolutely no chance whatsoever. Not many people have Hogan in their best 22 so he will struggle to get game time, despite his talent.

Looks like he's worked hard on his kicking skills over the summer. His one touch(no fumbling) footy skills were awesome considering the weather too.
