Broken arm ends Holland's AFL season

August 12, 2008 - 4:04PM

The ruined season of Collingwood midfielder Brodie Holland has been broken for good, this time by a break to his right arm.
Holland suffered a broken arm while playing for the Magpies' VFL side last Saturday, having only recently overcome nagging Achilles problems.
Holland, 28, was playing his third VFL game since resuming when an opponent fell on his arm in a tackle during the last quarter of the loss to Werribee.
Collingwood chief of football Geoff Walsh said Holland underwent surgery on Monday.
"He had a plate put in there (the radius bone, above the wrist) to stabilise the affected area on Monday, and he will miss the remainder of the season," Walsh told the club's website.
"Brodie had worked hard to overcome his Achilles injury, and to have this happen at this time of year after battling through his rehabilitation for a long time is shocking luck."
Holland's latest injury continues a nightmare period over the past two seasons, in which he has played only eight AFL games.
He missed the first six games of the 2007 season through suspension, for his shirtfront on the Western Bulldogs' Brett Montgomery in the 2006 finals series, but strung together the next seven games.
They were his only appearances last year before his Achilles problems flared, and his only game this season came in the round five loss to North Melbourne.

Bad luck Brodie - but, will he now be delisted, given that he has probably been passed by a few of the kids?

I'll be very surprised if he gets another contract. A bit of a shame, as i think he perhaps still had something ot offer, but without a chance to show it, he will be let go.

Well his season never really started to actually end.

Also see him get delisted by year-end. Would have thought he'd be in our top 10 earners, so should clear some room for an acquisition, or to player/s that deserves it.

Not many non pies supporters will lose any sleep over this announcement.
Holland was just an average battler with his best work being scragging and sniping off the ball.
Pies are a better side without him .

I read the title and I immediately thought - "season? surely that would be the end of his career?"

Seems I wasn't alone on that train of thought - standing room only....
