All due back from injury in the next 1-2 weeks.

You would think Headland would certainly come back through the WAFL.

Are the others right to come straight back in though and if so for who?

Injuries to the guys above resulted in guys like Grover, Fyfe, Roberton and Bradley coming into the side.

Broughton for Roberton - no contest.
Mcpharlin>>> Grover - I think we can make that change.
Johnson for Bradley?? - Kep has been great since he came back. Gives a better contest in the ruck when he goes in there to back up Sandi IMO. Do we keep both and play Johnson permanently forward?
Mayne - comes back in for who? Morabito to have a rest? Maybe Mayne could do with some WAFL time to regain some form, he wasn't playing the best.

Would be great to see Bucovaz get a game sometime also. Some good competition for forward line spots with Mayne, Headland, Bucovaz, Johnson and Kep all fighting for spots.

We saw Fremantle pressure again last night and for mine it contributed in a large way to the win. To that end it is what Mayne contributes, sure I would like more goals and marks but the tackles etc are his big contribution at the moment, to the extent that I reckon he will be back in straight away minimal questions asked.

I hope Kep is able to keep his spot same same Nat Fyfe.

It's hard to see how Fyfe can go out. He has been brilliant offensively but also does the defensive stuff. He's a fierce tackler despite his slight frame and works hard the other way. He gets into space and kicks superb goals. That checkside under pressure last night was amazing. He also has smarts, vision and sends a lot of dangerous ball inside 50. Ticks all the boxes for me.
It's the balance between pure defensive players like JVB, DeBoer and Crowley and the guys who are being played for their offensive ability like Fyfe, Ballantyne who also score goals. If you are going to bring Mayne in you have to leave out someone like Crowley /DeBoer as at this stage, Fyfe is doing more offensively AND doing the other stuff.
Crowley would be under most pressure purely on last nights showing. He was beaten to the ball a lot last night and his man rebounded well.

Broughton - straight in
Mayne - straight in
Mcpharlin - straight in

Headland - sorry but you have to earn your spot. Fyfe has been great and I would absolutely go ape shit if Headland is fast tracked in. The question is,if he isnt in for Fyfe who does he replace?

Johnson - Im no fan of Bradley but he his efforts has always been good and his decision making has improved. Johnson just needs to make every post a winning to earn a spot.

Some seriously difficult Thursday selection debates coming up!

I can't imagine McPharlap/Elvis will be rushed in, or via WAFL.

Headland is a conundrum; his best is incredible, but I see him as a senior player who'll be under tremendous pressure to keep his spot if he gets back into the team.

If Keps comes out I'd hate to be the one to have to break it to him. I think you can tell he just loves to play and he really hasn't put a foot wrong.

We have a winning side, so take the longterm view with players, remembering that we are finals bound. Bring them in if cherry-ripe, and only if they improve our side. Due to whatever reasons, I think only MacPharlin and Broughton significantly improve the team.

Headland definitely via the WAFL to test his injury/fitness, but no automatic selection (for mine he contributes more than Mayne offensively, and is pretty fair defensively too).

Mayne in the WAFL too because his game has narrowed quite a bit with the lack of goal scoring.

Johnson in the WAFL (assuming Voodoo Bradley keeps his form) with a view to re-enforce the point that he is not required if his attitude is not spot on.

Broughton and MacPharlin brought straight in when 100% fit. We miss them.

Broughton for Roberton - no contest.

Completely disagree, Roberton will get a game if he continues to put in games like he did.

Broughton for Van Berlo

Mcpharlin>>> Grover - I think we can make that change.

Probably correct

With Broughton back and Duffman kicking ass...It's a tough call who comes out in our backline...I'm tempted to say Hayden but he still add's something.

Ibbotson hands down before last nights game to come out, not anymore though. Plus I don't think Ibbotson would react too well to being dropped.

Johnson for Bradley?? - Kep has been great since he came back. Gives a

Bradley has done well, can't see him getting dropped.

Johnson may have to earn it through the WAFL
Mayne will have to wait his turn as well

anyone who's beeen out for more than 3 or 4 weeks, i'd want them playing a wafl game for match practice and for touch. what we don't want is blokes 'finding themselves' during the heat of battle.

It's already been said but i reckon Headland and Johnson should come back via WAFL - when we need them due injury or poor form.

Next game i'd do a straight swap Brougton for Roberton, though he is very unlucky, otherwise no change.

When they are fit McPharlin and Mayne straight back in also - tough who goes out.

I would like to see the following backline given a run:
B: Grover Tarrant Broughton
HB: Haydn McPharlin Silvagni

hasn't happend yet this year but it's my best back 6.

Grover/Tarrant/Broughton can play well on tall's and small's (Grover blanketed Eddie Bett's - got a couple of freaky late goals, last week played on Gossi and kept him to 2)
McPharlin/Silvangni are great on tall's and provide great decision making/rebound
Hayden for rebound and creativity. Not the best on small's anymore, but still a great reader of the game.

I reckon we won't lose to many if we get back to having this 6 in our defence!!

Broughton - straight in
Mayne - straight in
Mcpharlin - straight in

I agree with this. Our teams forward pressure has dropped off a bit last couple weeks and I reckon this is partly due to Mayne missing.

If Johnson comes straight in for Kep I'm going to be livid. We need that Kepler Magic out there :D

Beat me to it :thumbsu:

I dont agree with that.
Ive rewatched the games and kept an eye on forward pressure, it was pretty much just as good as normal, the only difference has been that we have been getting it in there half the amount of times so they havent had the chance to apply so much pressure.

Our midfield pressure an not enough getting the ball has been the problem over the last few weeks.
Last night was much better

I don't want to see Headland back again unless it is for a farewell game. Would take away from a forward/ midfield option that we really need at the moment.

I thought McPharlin was still a month or more away?

I'd say Broughton in for Hayden because he is almost bordering on liability.

Then at least we know everyone in the backline can play one on one.

I bagged Mayne a little while ago but in the few games he has missed you can tell what he adds pressure-wise.
Straight back in for me.
Luke Mac, Broughton straight back.
Give MJ on week on the 2's, 2-3 weeks in the 2's for Des.

Kep will probably come out with that ankle injury, so I'd bring broughton in, no unforced changes. Then I'd move Hayden into the forward line.

Think we need to start rewarding a winning team with only changes that are necessary. Let them contribute for each other in battle and worry less about their own skins.

There is no way Kepler should come out for Johnson on current form. No way at all. Let alone taking into account Kepler is a lot more of a team player than Johnson is.

He should get no free passes. At least a couple of weeks in the WAFL to earn his spot.

Broughton, Mayne, McPharlin - IN

Roberton, De Boer, JVB - OUT

Headland, Johnson - WAFL

Grover and Tarrant actually don't do a bad job on smalls hence I've taken out JVB and De Boer.

I think it's going to depend on the opposition whether we have Tarrant, McPharlin and Grover in the same side.

Just went through the stats on the freo website and i've ranked these guys in order of importance to the team:
1.Broughton
2.McPharlin
3.Mayne

4.Johnson
5.Headland

In that order of importance - top 3 we definitely need back in win they are over injuries; not sure about Johnson and headland. I think bradley and Fyfe are more effective

Bradley has taken some super marks at both ends of the ground lately. MJ's best is probably a little classier than Keps but as you say, Keps is effective and more importantly he isn't doing the stupid stuff. That run he made up the ground yesterday late in the game you could see he was knackered but just willing himself to keep running and carrying the ball.
Fyfe >>>> Des. Works more effectively up the ground, carries the ball, marking, snapping goals, pretty much everything really. Des in his prime it might have been Des but he moves like an old man now.

I'd have a huge problem trying to pick a starting line with anything close to a full squad available but for my 2 cents.

I thought Fyfe was going to get a game or two just to show him what he needs to be aiming for, turns out he's already there :) and for me he's earnt his spot, Headland will need some time in the wafl after being out this long so hopefully if Fyfe starts to look tired or picks up a niggle have Headland ready to switch in for him.

Brougton has to come back in when ready, I think he's a handy substitute for Hayden but if Hayden's fit I just couldn't drop him so Roberton is out. Mcpharlin's probably a few more weeks away again and imo again will need at least one game in the wafl just to be sure, then it really gets hard. I'd so like to keep one of Roberton/Pearce and when Mcpharlins back Grover/Roberton/Pearce on the interchange to keep getting games into them and give us some cover if we get a mid game injury but I can't decide who would miss out. Crowley, Ibbotson, Suban? Who ever it was we'd loss something so maybe it's not a luxury we have.

I like the idea of hayden going forward and maybe if there's a gap between when broughton and mayne are ready but after that Mayne has to come in and again there's no room.

And then there's Ruffles....

I do think we have the talent now that no one has to be rushed back in and in the end however the Thursday meetings play out there's going to be some people who I would have killed to be in the team last year lining up in the wafl.

I've got no doubt Johnson will be forced to earn his spot back.

He let the club down, the players and himself, he has alot of work to do to regain that trust.

Keplar has been a model of hard work and to be honest, I think he has given more in his time when compared with Johno's output anyway.

Des will spend some time at Subi as well. Love Fyfe.

Mayne and Macpharlin will come in when ready.

Think Broughton may play a few games with Subi to get his legs back.

Players under a bit of pressure to hold their spots are Crowley & Hayden(form), Roberton, Silvagni & van Berlo(pecking order). Probably 2 changes straight after the break - Johnson and Broughton in, two of the above to miss.

That run he made up the ground yesterday late in the game you could see he was knackered but just willing himself to keep running and carrying the ball.

That was an excellent run, especially considering he was carrying a dodgy ankle too. Kepler seems to have a knack for bouncing back from injuries quick and injuring others.

Crowley should be looking over his shoulder after McPhees job on Judd.

id be devestated if they drop kepler

his disposal is very good if you watch him as closely as i do

in the game against the saints he faked a bomb up the line and drilled a short pass under pressure onto the chest of mcphee.

very underrated ball user (look at his efficiency)
