After watching the footage on the news's tonight I was more interested in how come no one was cited for kneeing him in the head.

Nevertheless sanity prevails.

Watching 9 earlier and had to switch to 7 when Dean Sidchrome Tool For Life Cox came on I was in time to catch Ross lyon comment about (on 7) Broughton's case tonight.

He (lyon) was straight up and said something like it's not his area. He lets those things get handled by the people who handle those things.

How about that eh. Someone who tells it how it is. Dead set. You can't help but like people that don't bullshit.

I'm sure he'd love to comment. He'd be mad as hell that one of his players has to go through this. But of course he can't can he? He's not allowed to.

You're right.

Someone might put it up so I can watch it again. For me though, he gave the distinct impression he was happy with other people to handle it, so he wasn't going to think about it.

Whatever he said.... added another tick.

How are you guys keeping up with Prior and his argument? Footage or something?

There was a feed from inside the tribunal hearing reporting on what lawyer was saying. As it turned out, the prosecutor turned out to be a grade A knob jockey who generally dribbled shit, while the 'Defense' (Prior) tackled him directly on just about every point and had his facts straight.

Then the Tribunal chairman basically said memos don't overrule the laws of the game and sliding isnt against any laws, so basically GTFO. In short, the facts and justice won out over the crap served up by the MRP.

Thats my view of how things worked out anyway.

Prior was unbelievable in the defence of Broughton. Tinney from the AFL wanted to make an example of Broughton but Prior smashed him out of the park with every arguement.

The main reason he got off was one fact. The afl sent a "memo" to the clubs after round four regarding sliding. This memo is why Broughton was charged in the first place, however the chairman of the tribunal stated afl memo's are not rules or regulations of the game they are guidelines which should be followed and can not be enforced by the MRP or the tribunal.

Justice is done, imagine being reprimanded or suspended for winning the footy and being 1st to the ball...

Under the current laws of the game, I agree entirely.

That said, the question will be asked within the AFL that should we follow the example of other codes in which sliding into a contest occurs, the obvious one being soccer. In that code, studs up sliding is absolutely a no-no because it runs the risk of serious injury to the player on the receiving end.

What Broughton did was entirely acceptable under the laws of the game.

The question is whether it should be given the injury risk "studs up" carries and also whether it will be come 2013?

I suspect next year those sliding in studs up will be gone. Of course sliding, studs down, is difficult :)
