Channel 7 tonight saying Lyon doesn't need him and to trade him??? You have to be kidding me?, if he reckons someone like Ibbo is a better player then He must be watching a different game. Unfortunately from the time Lyon has been here Broughton has had some injury issues. He is a bloody good player, miles ahead of ibbotson.

He is a good player, but not untradeable like a hill or a fyfe. For the right price we should trade him. Port isn't the only team chasing him. Stkilda are as well

I think Geelong would be a good fit for him, pick 16 could be a good fit for us.
What would you think of;
Broughton + Pick 17 for Pick 16 and Mitch Brown?

Theres also the principle of not improving your enemy. Broughton is a really good player - you dont hand a player like that to the Cats.

Broughton is a lot better than Brown maybe if we got pick 29 from Port for somebody and did Broughton + 29 For 16 + Brown otherwise NO! ... Proven Gun with 1 bad season ... not even bad just misfortunate he'll come back nxt yr and finish top 5 B&F, FYFE, HILL, MUNDY, PAV, SANDILANDS, MORABITO (IF RIGHT), PEARCE, MCPHARLIN, needs to beat 4 of these to do so and by season 2010 and 2011 hes capable ... Notice hes the only small backmen yet alone backmen with a FUTURE!

Brought on is a great player. Don't like this, we've comparitive dross ahead of him on our list.

Yeah, but Ibbo doesn´t have much worth on the trade market whereas Broughton does. Thats why Broughts is up for trade.

Yes the reason why Broughton is tradable is because he is good and better than Ibbo. Why would you want to trade a good player. Good players you want to keep and trading them for draft picks don't always pay off.

We can blame our inability to land a KPF in previous years for becoming desperate to the extent of flogging off our players to get a KPF this year. That and the fact that Shaw, Stringer, Jacksch and Plowman will most likely be gone by our pick in this draft making Bondy desperate for a higher pick.

Maybe Bondy also plans to pick up Surjan for free in the PSD as cover for a lock down defensive post.

Seems like our strategy was, in order:
  1. Go for Cloke - failed
  2. Go for Lee - outbid
  3. Go for Hogan - outbid
  4. Go for Gumby - failed medical
  5. Go for Brown (Geelong) - failed
  6. Trade for higher positions in the draft to secure KPF
I reckon Broughton was probably put on the table for Hogan also (i.e. Pick 16 plus Broughton).

Because sometimes you need to get different kinds of players in. To get something you have to give something. I'd rather give up duffield spurr ibbotson or The like but the reality is that they aren't worth much. We did fine this year without broughton but we aren't going to take the next step IMO unless we get some players to help mcpharlin and pav... We need to draft in kpp talent, we aren't going to do that with late picks in the draft. Yes the draft isn't always the answer, yes it could fail, but broughton isn't going to help our kpp stocks either.

Well, never have I agreed with you more KPR!
We're never gonna get those kpp players by offering up peanuts other than as a sweetener. Assess who has market currency,..... can we cover for him?....... yes, then do the deal! Exact same reason that Clarke would be tradeable.

Broughton is a gun small defender. He's already an elite player (Champion Data post '11 pre '12) trading him would absolutely blow up in our face ie Clement and Medders.

We don't have any other small who can beat their opponent man on man more often than not.

And Broughton for Brown in a straight swap? GTFO.

C grader. We have a market. Another thread on this also

C grade? Really?

Broughton has played 4 seasons with Freo. In his first year finished 8th in the Doig medal count. In his second year he missed 7 games through injury and still finished 5th. In his third year he finished 3rd. This year was the only year he's missed out on top ten in our best and fairest. How many C graders can boast that kind of recognition from their coaches?

Seems like a few people have let Broughton's poor year on account of injury cloud their judgements on him. He's not "untradeable" by any means, but as others have said, we haven't got a dearth of players who can play on opposition small forwards while also rotating through the midfield when required. He's valuable on our list. Sure, if the right price/player came along, but nothing bandied around so far comes close (Broughton for Brown...no ****ing way!)

I'd much prefer he was off the table, I rate him better in the side than any of the current backmen that head through the revolving door into the backline: Spurr, Ibbo, Duffield, Suban, Roberton, McPhee, Mzungu, even MJ (because I don't have a short memory). I'd honestly be gutted if we lost him and would expect some 'goddam' compensation, to paraphrase the Adelaide list managers.

Yep, definitely worth trading our best small defender for some potential draft pick or some bloke who is third player depth for Geelong and boost our opposition's strength. Real fn smart. Why don't we package up Fyfe too so we get some real "worth on the trade table". Morons.

Would much rather Ibbo or Robo being shipped out. It would want to be a good deal for us.
