Is there really a greater risk of him injuring himself in comparrison to VFL? Softer, better grounds, better medical staff, better facilities.

I think it would be smarter for him to adjust to the pace of the game by playing the last 10 mins of each quarter for Richmond, than play another couple of weeks at Coburg

At Coburg it is more laid back, less pressure to perform. At AFL with the crowd screaming he will push his leg harder and the game is much more demanding.

Also he didn't do much for Coburg and looked quite unfit. Logically he'll do even less at AFL level for the first few weeks... I'd like to hide his poor form for a while instead of putting him in the spotlight until he improves later.

Interesting to see that Tivendale was named, would this mean he wont play for Richmond, does it mean that he is just getting a game under his belt as he missed last week due to Family Issues, or has he been given the flick for good.
Lets hope he stays their for good:thumbsu:

Looks like he'll be playing against the Dees, but I guess he was supposed to play Round 1.

Richmond star Nathan Brown will be rested from the VFL this weekend to keep him fresh for what could be a long-awaited AFL comeback against Melbourne on June 22.

Brown, who has returned from injury through the Coburg reserves and then the Coburg senior side in the past two weeks, is yet to play for Richmond in the 2007 home and away season.

He was withdrawn from the Tigers' side before the opening round because of soreness in the leg he broke in a sickening incident more than two years ago.

But Richmond football manager Paul Armstrong said Brown was hopeful of making his return against the Demons in what would be his first senior match since round 17 last season, more than 10 months ago.

"It's all progressing fine and hopefully by next Thursday night he's got through all the training and then it becomes a selection issue," Armstrong said of Brown's recovery.

He said there had been no further pain as a result of Brown playing two matches in the past fortnight.

But the scheduling of Coburg's match on Sunday against Frankston, only five days before Richmond plays Melbourne, prompted the decision to rest him.

"Given that we're being very careful with the way he's come back and given it's a Sunday game, to ask him to back up would be too much, given the amount of time he's had off and he's had only two games," Armstrong said.

"He wants to make himself available for Friday night so he's trained today and he'll train next week in preparation for playing on Friday night."

Richmond have this weekend off because of the AFL's split round.

I prefer to look at it like this, Brown plays at Coburg to gain fitness which is what most of us are wanting, but the Tigers season is gone so no point bringing him back for say the final 5-6 weeks. May as well play him at Richmond and use him in bursts to get his fitness level up. After all there is nothing he can gain by playing at Coburg thay he con't gain by playing for Richmond. Fair enough if we were fighting for a finals berth it would be great to have Brown get to full fitness at Coburg and comeback for a finals push.

I think you have it right realistic, Why honestly would they be saying he is good if he is not good? Its been this long already, i dont know why they would lie about this kinda thing.

Why would they announce he is playing for Coburg and then pull him out now? Either he pulled up feeling awesome and is 100% fit or he has full blown stress fractures and is out for the year.

THEY didn't announce he was playing for Coburg. The Coburg ground announcer who has no connections to Richmond whatsoever said it to try to drum up some business. She had absolutely no say, insight or influence on the decision. She was guessing / reading the papers like everyone else. There is no conspiracy theory here - just one Coburg volunteer guessing.

I forgot about the Knob...wasn't he supposed to have been right to run around for Coburg last week??

If they are both still not ready, guess Patto has got another huge job, against White this time. Well, I guess it is good he has over the last couple of months gotten good experience fronting up to all the best ruckmen in the comp. Hopefully in the 2nd half he can take a supporting role and build on what he has learnt!

i say qualify browny for the burger finals :D

seriously tho does anyone know how many games are needed to actually qualify and do reserves games count?

Snell did his ankle btw not leg
Not true, Snell broke his leg at the bottom of the bone near the angle and the bone went down through his ankle and out of his foot into the boot. He eventually needed to have his ankle fused, but it was still a broken leg that caused the damage. Same injury as Brown, just 20cm lower.
