good question???? they wanted it but it will be interesting to see if he did or not... either way he's our's now for two years at least

unless he retires and then gets drafted by essendon.;)

Can someone somehow find that out? How long he has signed for?

He actually sounds pretty excited, and in his write up on the CFC website, he mentioned he is looking forward to teh future with Carlton.

Good signs.

OH Murphy, Gibbs, Walker, Simpson...

Imagine the pre-match headaches for opposition coaches when they look at these players plus Stevens, Blackwell, perhaps even Jackson & have to decide who they are going to tag. I think Nick Stevens is going to find life a lot easier in a couple of years' time.

he signed for the standard which is two years no player in the draft (1700) nominated outside the standard

do you know where to get the list of nominated players from
is there a link somewhere?

Incorrect (I think)
No one nominated at a category 1 player by naming their FINANCIAL requirements. This has nothing to do with the length of the contract.

fair enough but it is two years minimum when you get drafted and if you delist them after one year you have to pay them the second year

I'm pretty sure that is correct mate, but seeing that they only signed a standard contract, which I believe is about $45K, it's not a great deal of money to be paying out.

I will certainly be interested in what the club offers Gibbs, especially now that one of his best mates was drafted yesterday as well.

Let's see how the younger inexperienced players cope with being tagged... wonder if they'll sook and whinge like Stevens did? :)

If i remember correctly, young Murphy was tagged heavily this year, and during some games, he was even tagged by two players... yet he still managed to play well.

Really, you can make all the excuses you want about Stevens, but if Murphy in his first year can come and play well whilest heavily tagged, what does that say about Stevens-"I want to be Captain"?

So many excuses for Stevens...

Gibbs and Murphy, Walker, Scotland and Simpson.... its looking great for players having to fight for a spot! It's going to lift the team attitude hopefully...

Can't say I remember that happening. Can't say I remember Stevens complaing about getting tagged either.

Can't say you didn't see Murphy put his head down, play well, and that you saw Stevens have a great game every time he was tagged?

It says a lot, if a first year player comes out and does well under enormous pressure, as well as being constantly tagged, yet one of our so called 'leaders' can't play well when he is tagged.

Not whinging, not being negative, just making my point.

I think you are being a bit harsh on Stevo. I agree that at times this year he looked disinterested & maybe didn't always give 100%, but it has been pointed out in other threads that he did carry an injury for much of the year. Certainly you couldn't fault his first two seasons at the club, so lets not get stuck into him over one disappointing season. If we see a similar performance next year, then maybe criticism will be justified, in the meantime let's just wait & see what happens.

i know it wasn't totally because of gibbs. but a majority of the thought would be on keeping gibbs at carlton. anyone agree?

Not really. The club wouldn't waste a pick and a spot on our list just to get the best mate of Gibbs down to the club.
like i said not entirely but it wouldve had a massive bearing on his pick. i think if not for gibbs he would have been picked up about 10 picks back. his skills arent all that good and his fairly thin but i think he will be of a bannister type exept much faster. good or bad i dont know

Actually we expected him to go in the twenties so we felt he was a bit of a bargin at that pick from what I've been told. I seriously doubt the Gibbs effect, whatever limited influence that would be, would've meant much when we picked him.
