Should we make a serious move for his services now his stock value is low?

I don’t want to lose him as i rate him highly and will complement Walker, Tippett and Henderson but if the out of contract Chris Knights was to shock the club and ask for a move back to Victoria, i would accept that as fair remuneration for Bryce Gibbs.

You thoughts.

Bryce just signed a new contract at Carlton didn't he?

Yes he did but since when has that ever mattered. Contracts only matter if both parties are happy, if we go to him with a similar offer and pitch the clubs ethos, beliefs and values regarding winning to him, he may be swayed.

Players under contract move clubs all the time.

Don't worry, I already know that players can move clubs under contract.

My post was more along the lines of "if he just signed a new contract then wouldn't that mean he is keen to stay at the club".

If we could persuade him then I would love to have him here though. He is still young but could be a valuable player to have going forward. The criticisim on him can be harsh and unfair sometimes IMO. He is only 20-21yo and most players break out when they're 24-26yo. I have no doubt that he will be a very good player in the future.

I don't want to rain on your parade here, but Gibbs is going nowhere, he has just signed a contract and is a very good player out of form, he's low on confidence as is the team, and he has been soft

Crows98 pls tell me you're not serious in thinking that a straight swap of Knights for Gibbs would be acceptable from our end?

He hasn't been confirmed as dropped yet, has he? His stock is on the decline, certainly... Knights and a second rd pick? Although it is Carlton so a shiny penny and pick 78 might do.

Even that wouldnt come close. He is happy at Carlton so these threads are pointless.

thats a NO - lock it...or as the soup nazi would say...'no gibbs for you'.

If not Gibbs, what about Sylvia, varcoe, beams, barham or Daniel cross?

do carlton still play him off half back? I remember he moved in the midfield last year some time and he looked an instant star compared to off half back where he was good but not great.

I thought maybe they are trying to protect him while hes still young, but they did the same thing with Kruzer who looked a star at FF but they played him in the ruck instead of just using someone like cloke as a battering ram.

If being dropped = being traded, Walker woulda been outta here long ago

Good players don't get upset about being dropped, they go back and work hard to get their spot back. Bryce won't ask for a trade cos he got dropped.

It's nice to think, but would have to give a lot up for him. And for that, i say no thanks, even if it did come up

Would love Sylvia but I think he would be pretty hard to get, along with post players on that list. It does sound great to add one of those names to our squad but at what cost? Would it be worth it in the end? Probably not but without thinking that far it does sound good.

He speaketh the truth

I don't think Gibbs would even want to come back to Adelaide

There is nothing causing him to return-he's too old to want to come back to his parents and barracked for North Melbourne and had no allegiance to Adelaide at all

I know he wasn't a Crows fan but he was basically treated as one of the family for a couple of years there when we thought we were getting him under the F/S rule wasn't he? Almost like one of the young NSW scholarship kids? I might be mistaken on this but if I'm right, he would surely have some affinity for the club.

At any rate, I agree it won't happen and if it did it would take a lot more than Knights and a second rounder. Particularly a 2010/2011 2nd rounder which would be pick about a million.

I think we should make a bold move for a top mid fielder like Gibbs or Griffen if they are remotely interested .
Lets face it if we went all guns placing to get Pavlich we would have another premiership now eg 2006 .
Just feel to really climb to where we want to be with kids etc we have we need 1 more class player preferrably Mid fielder.

I'm perplexed as to why the OP would say that Bryce's "stock value is low".

We all know how good Bryce may be and how good he can be when at full flight - but the reality is that over the past month especially, he has been particularly poor.

There are rumours of him being dropped this week (which I am all for - but that's a discussion for another place) but does that mean his stocks are low?

I wouldn't have thought so.

We all know he could be a brilliant player in time but he's not immune from getting dropped if his form doesn't warrant senior selection.

Even though he may get dropped this week as a reminder of that (much like Dal Santo either last year or the year before) that does not mean he is out of favour or that his stocks are low - in fact they are probably just as high as they have ever been.

If you wanted Gibbs seriously, there's no way you'd get him without Dangerfield coming the other way - a price which, as I alluded to in a similar thread on the Carlton board, is surely far too high for either team to pay.
