Hi All :)

We've had the Bryce Gibbs cup (Carlton V Essendon), well this week would have to be the Bryce Gibbs round!

Scenarios:

1) Essendon win, we lose. We could pencil ourselves in for the wooden spoon.
2) We win Essendon lose. We get to 15th but we're still at risk of the spoon so have to ensure we get a big % booster to help us if we have same amount of points as Essendon later in the season.
3) We both win.... very at risk for spoon, but need a massive % boost to at least propel us to 15th.

So not only our we playing an old rival this weekend, we have this added nail biting bonus!

GO BLUES

Any thoughts? Should we call it the Hansen/Gumbleton round instead

I think I still like the idea of calling it Round 20! Seriously though, it doesn't really matter, either way we get Gibbs, Hansen or Gumbleton.........all three will be guns.

The ideal result would be for Essendon to be absolutely pumped in the remaining rounds, and for us to be competitive in all the remaining rounds- thus giving us a higher percentage, 15th place and a priority pick, and delivering the WS to the 'Dons. Be nice, but prob wont happen.

This is whats wrong with football these days...

This is a bloke who sings the opposition's song when Carlton lose.

Id say Essendon will beat us, so you may get Bryce. The Dome is a rubbish place for football..

I honestly preferred Waverley to the Dome.
BTW I would gladly win all 3 games for the rest of the season.
I could never ever, want Carlton to lose against Collingwood who we play next week.

I find AFL theme songs catchy ....

btw, im still working on that document you wanted - to help inform Hawthorn supporters how the draft works without priority picks ;)

Whether 15th or 16th place on the ladder at the end of the season, I believe Carlton will hope to get Hansen in preference to Gibbs. Is it just co-incidental, at his after match media conferences the last 2 weeks, in response to questions from a Journalists, Pagan has quoted the need for a key tall defender, before quoting the need for a midfielder. Would this suggest The Blues are after Hansen or Gumbelton in preference to Gibbs?

I'm close with a few players at the club I can assure all supporters Bryce Gibbs will be Carlton's first choice with a strong possibility of being presented with Stick's no.4 as Livingston will be delisted.

Could we actually trade Livo, or has he no value to speak of?

I actually think we look pretty good Structurally. Getting another cog in that engine room will do the whole team wonders.

We could trade a whole backline - Livo, Teague, Sporn, and throw in McGrath all for Polak.
Structurally, we need a full back. Thornton, Whitnall and Russell/Walker across half back, Carlos, Carrazzo, and (new Full back - Waite, Polak, Bower)

Would agree that Gibbs and Murph in the middle with Stevo/Simpson/Hoops and Kouta off the bench would make a great engine room.

Kennedy into the forward line, Waite to FB/CHB - could learn to be a great backman - kicking lets him down up forward.
Pagan hinted at as much a few weeks ago, and had Josh not punctured a lung it may have been tried.
Thoughts?

I'd like Waite to be given "some time" in the backline this week, to see how he goes. These last few games are the best time to try players in different positions. Who knows, he may be a ready made backline player for next year?

Honestly who would want livo? The guy has been at a bottom club for how long and cant get a game, why would anyone else waste a pick on him? Actually lets offer him to freo, after all they are interested in Hay, why not Livingston.

Honestly I would be furious if we didn't take Gibbs if we had the chance. He is probably the safest bet to be a really good player. On the weekend our defence was poor at the start, but to be honest our midfield was worst. We never seemed to win the ball out of the middle. Also if Walker, Murphy, Gibbs and Simpson could all become really good players we might in even have a West Coast like midfield in a few years time. If we don't take Gibbs and he becomes the next Chris Judd we will never be able to forgive ourselves.

We have the young midfielders though. I know Gibbs is a quality player but wouldn't some tall talent in the backline be better for the future?

Only if they're rated a better player - eg. if you had the choice would you pass up Dal Santo for Graham Polak just cos he's taller?

with the first pick get best available, with later picks lets address positional needs - bearing in mind we've got several young defenders from last year's draft, although we still lack a true FB and a Back Pocket for those Farmer/Davey types.
