Yes i know there are other players who MAY deserve a chance before him (Spencer, Lonergan, Thurly) but the boy is in good form, there are not many in that catagory.

It may be a chance to see if he has got what it takes to get promoted off the rookie list at season end.

I believe Enright is having an op so he could go on the long term list for Bucky to come in.

Any thoughts???????

with wojcinsky already on the long term injury list we have been able to promote a rookie since the start of the year and havent. i would have thought with our injuries they would have already done so with buckland.

I don't think he can play seniors this week.I think Rookies have to be promoted to the senior list before Rd 18.
If you are correct then i would have thought that they would promote someone just for backup as we need now. It wouldnt have hurt to promote someone just as insurance.

I agree, he should be given the chance to prove himself, he was great on the weekend he tagged Murphy all day and beat him hands down,
Well done Bucky

Oh yeah Buckland did a decent job yesterday in a negative role, didnt get much of the ball himself, but this would be his last year as a rookie so what do you think Geelong will do there?

Well thats why maybe they should give him a run in the ones to see if he is worth promoting.

Ok, it’s now too late to promote anyone from the rookie list onto the senior list.

And promoting a player costs a fair wack – not too sure how much – so unless you were certain this bloke was going to play and make a good impact, then there is no point spending x amount of money when you could simply do so at the end of the year for nothing.

It would be worth the gamble early in the year, but anything over Round 12 there is no point and it will just be a real waste.

I will say though, I was surpirsed we didn't elevate a player after Wojcinski went down in Round Two. Would have been perfect to see how a player would have fared during the season.

Maybe they held hope that he could be back for the latter part of the season? Who knows.

Agreed.

Yes he did do a good job footyman, but he also picked up 20 touches himself not a bad days work. Give him ago

I am a fan of Bucky! I would promote him to the senior list next year!

IMO he plays a bit like Darren Milburn, and with Dasher moving into the midfield and up forward, it could give Bucky a chance to come in to the senior side. He is very good at filling a hole and taking that important mark, being the third man up at ruck contests, he has a massive leap and has a very good spoil on him.

I would be very disappointed if we didnt promote him, I see a bright future for him!

Bucky needs alot more than the two years he's been granted before he shows signs of what he's really capable of.

His year on a whole has been sub-par - one could argue not promotion worthy - but hopefully the club realises he needs the extra years to fill out his body before we see what Luke Buckland can really contribute to an AFL club.

Not sure if Luke would agree with you.His form has been spasmodic, which is an attitude thing. He has to show some self belief.

No.

Bucky must be either promoted or delisted. His time on the rookie list is over at the end of the season.

There is a clause where a club can ask for a third year for a rookie, but that's only in exceptional circumstances (ie. if a player does a couple of knees and misses 90% of his 2 years on the rookie list).

What about the other rookies? Which ones will be in the same boat as Buckland? So then, how many new rookies will we pick up?

Bucky is the only one who's time is up.

As i understand it, Garth and Batchelor must be given a second year regardless, whilst with Tim Sheringham, the club can decide whether to give him a second year, delist him or promote him.

As for numbers of rookies, it depends on what happens with Brenton Sanderson and Peter Riccardi.

We have no one else eligible for a veterans list position until 2007, so if both Sando and Ricco retire we'll have 6 rookies in 2006.

So basically if we retain the three eligible (which is likely), we'll definitely have one new rookie, but could have up to three.

i think bucky is the only one that has been there 2 yrs. Sheringham, Batchelor and Garth are the others new this year. They can be let go if they want. so i believe we beed at least 1 new rookie.

Can he be delisted and then picked up again and put back on the rookie list? I know there's an age limit for it which is 22 I think, so there's no problem there as he's only 20.

What's the difference between these players? Is it because Garth and Batchelor are from interstate?

Is that Milburn ?

Yes.

Dash is eligible in 2007, King 2008, Harley 2009 and Mooney 2010.

Yep.

I'm not certain of the current rule, but previously interstate rookies were given a guaranteed two year rookie deal (unless gross misconduct occurs).
