My thoughts? Happy to oblige.

Carlton are still rubbish; Collingwood were just rubbisher.

But in all seriousness...

Collingwood - Whether or not Buckley can coach, the biggest problem I can see is lack of continuity in our playing stocks. It seems every year we turn over key and experienced players whom the football department have lost faith in. Take for example this year - Brown, Frost, Marsh and Williams. None of them duds, three of them getting regular games at new clubs, and those four had probably played more games in Collingwood's backline than anyone over the past two years. As a result we are relying on warhorses such as Goldsack and blooding new players such as Schade, which is all well and good occasionally but not year on year.

Carlton - This is the first time in 20 years that they are going about a rebuild the right way. My opinion on Carlton between 2008 and 2015 has proven to have been spot on despite the Carlton faithful on this site being blinded by multiple false dawns - you know we're coming, one kick from a Prelim, Judd's our saviour, Malthouse is our saviour, etc. etc. They now have some quality on their list and it will be interesting to see if they can be developed into a legitimate contender for the first since 2001. They will be nuisance value for the next couple of years in winning 6 to 9 games before their time may come. They still have a lot of gaps to fill but have a strong yet still shallow core with the likes of Cripps, Weitering and Docherty. And SPS, my god he can play.

Oh Fadge, you're adorable.

I looked at the odds this week, going into yesterday, Collingwood were unbelievably priced at $26 for the flag and this morning they have drifted only to $34. They are still rated as about the 8th fav for the flag by bookmakers. What a joke- they should be at about $80.

I know bookies set the price according to the market so they are just covering themselves with short odds because more people will put the odd bet here or there on the Pies but $34 is ridiculous. They could make them 500-1 and it wouldn't matter cos they ain't winning the flag.

Oh Fadge, you're adorable.

Just for clarity, I had consistently stated they were never going to contend for a flag during the years where they never contended for a flag.

I am now saying they are going the right way about a rebuild, have some talent on their list and may contend in a few years if a few things go their way.

In what way was I wr...whu..wch..wrg?

Sssshhh.
I don't want to hear from you anymore. I'm basking.
Be off.

It's not irrepairable in the right hands.

Buckley great player but his FIGJAM doesn't extend to a coaching role.

Wells, Varcoe (even though he's been good), Dunn, Mayne it's time to go. Sidebottom should be retired as a champion of the club. There's enough to work with to be competitive and potentially build a threatening team in 2-5 years.

They just recruited Wells and Mayne on big money 2-3 year deals. They can't go yet.

A decent coach/new coaching staff could turn them around quite quickly. They need to find another quality KPF and KPD. Do that and they are good enough to make the finals*

(*on the basis of getting a good coaching staff)

Carlton are 4 years behind in their rebuild yet somehow 4 goals better.

One team plays their heart out for their coach, the other simply doesn't.

I can't recall a coach given so many chances. Its almost laughable.

Hardwick but he's so far got a tick this year.

Collingwood won 88% of their matches the year before he started. Dropped to 68% in Buckley's first year, then 60%, 50%, 45%, 40%, and now going at 28% this year. Soon they'll have to find a way to lose more matches then they actually play

Id imagine this would be up there in most years coached with a worsening win % before being sacked. Coaches get sacked for not improving but this is ridiculous.

Sidebottom should be retired as a champion of the club.

Sidebottom just turned 26 four months ago. Given that he's one of the fittest players at the club, he's probably got another 7-8 years (eg half a career) left in him. Would be a bizarre and ridiculous move to try and retire him or force him out, unless he really wants to leave, or we're getting someone of equal age and quality in an area of need in return.

i wouldn't say they don't play for bucks.

They just don't seem to have any structure in their play whatsoever. their game plan seems to be 'lets just win the ball in the midfield and the rest should take care of itself'. i wasn't sure if we could match them in the midfield, but i was sure that if we could, then they were no chance.

i'm not sure if they do that because of the players they've signed or they've gone out to sign players based on this direction.

Sooking about the draw now.............its been excuse after excuse year after year.

hey what? they have the most fixed fixture of any team.

Well the Fas just sold his coach out as covering his inept ability.
Buckley: "3 games in 13 days was the reason complain complain complain about scheduling"

Fas: "5 day break was tough. 6 day break was like a normal week. Had nothing to do with it (yesterday)."

Onya Bucks!

That's even worse considering he's Playing like he's in his 30s.

Equal quality? Pick any once great but now ordinary player that'd be the fair comparison.

He's had a few poorer performances by his standards, but I don't think it's permanent or a sign that he's "done" as a good player and should be discarded.

Why are there so many opposition supporters who seem to want Buckley to be sacked?

In all seriousness, it's bizarre how invested non-Collingwood people are in this.

Pretty sad and pathetic too that the desire to see Buckley "get his" all stems from some apparent deserved "come-uppance" for him leaving the Brisbane Bears (a club going nowhere, that nobody gave a shit about at the time) way back in 1993, or the supposed "knifing" of Mick Malthouse (who most people think is a complete campaigner anyway).

Collingwood like to beat their chests as the biggest club in the land, of course football fans are interested in the fate of the coach who is a legend of a club leading an underperforning team.

Buckleys spectrum prob is showing up in his coaching. He needs a structure and finds comfort in predictability and repetition. Structure , system , effort ad nauseaum and no left field thinking and no plan b, no surprises. Hes locked in his own mental prison.

This is a carbon copy of the mistake we made when we got Daisy and Liam Jones and we all know what happened to the bloke that made those deals.

Pies are in the exact same position we were in Micks last days with a few good players around a heap of mediocre plodders and god help em if they lose Pendles who carries this team on his own virtually. Taylor Adams / Treloar types while being solid players they are no guns and both have shocking disposal that Bucks thought would be the missing pieces to a Top 4 tilt but it has not worked and that is not mentioning the Wells and Mayne deals.

Pies need to do a FULL rebuild but right now but it is hard cause the above blokes mentioned are in the new stages of mega deals which will sting in the future.

Bucks and Ed have created this mess and until they admit where they are currently list wise ( Which i doubt as both are to pig headed )the Pies will be forever in a free fall to the bottom of the ladder and i feel sorry for Pendles as he is a champion and sensational footballer but just surrounded by ineptness all around him on and off the field.

Pies are going to be in a world of hurt for the next 5+ years if they don't start making the hard decisions and how many good 18-20yo kids do they have coming through that look to be future guns? As i cannot name a single player and their drafting from 2013 onwards has been nothing short of deplorable.

Change the years in that link from 2016 down past the last 3 or so years and you struggle to find 2 decent prospects that are playing today and doing well.

correct.

buckley was out coached (again) but Bolton. it was obvious half way through through the first term. carlton's stoppage structures were first class. collingwoods were non existent.
