The lucrative deal - believed to be worth about $3 million over the course of the arrangement - officially ended in December when the Magpies decided not to renew their contract with the fast-food giant.
It is understood the parties were involved in a contract dispute of sorts earlier this year, related to the use of the McDonald's logo on club polo shirts...

they were aware that we were in discussions with a couple of other parties about being Nathan Buckley's new sponsor and that's still unfolding

I was told by my mate who works at subway they are one of the parties in discussions. So by the sounds of things Bucks wasnt happy with having "supersize me" mcmaccas on his gear and wants to send a healthier message, good on him.

They were a pretty big sponser of ours so i hope they can be replaced quickly. Port and the Saints have shown how much it can hurt missing a sponser or two for a season.

"Bucks not happy with Maccas" would be an interesting issue.

I'd imagine normally the Football department would not interfere with the sponsorship department's work (and vice versa).

But given that it's the coaching sponsorship we're talking about here, you'd think that Buckley could reasonably veto endorsing any products he doesn't believe in.

If it's true that Bucks is not happy with Maccas (and there's nothing to suggest he is) then good on him for taking a stand.

It's easy to be cynical about product endorsement ("Brand X is the best, I love it because they pay me lots of money!")

You seem to be drawing a very long bow with that assumption. I doubt it has anything to do with Buck's personal feelings in regard to fast food/health issues.

Yeah I gotta agree ^

Bucks, just like all the other coaches know the off field game and the stupid things they have wear or do in order to raise revenue that goes towards on field success.

I also agree with Kirby that you've gone out on a limb a bit there.

But if what you're saying about subway stepping in to replace them is true then that's great news, especially if it's for a similar deal numbers wise. It may not mean much in the grand scheme of things, but I'd rather see the club associated with Subway than Maccas.

Jokes aside I'm not sure it's a good thing if Bucks is getting involved in this stuff. Just coach the team and let the marketing and sponsorship guys do their thing, getting the club to walk away from a sponsorship because he thinks the food is too fattening is a bit precious for mine. If true of course.

Should get IN-N-OUT burgers to sponsor Bucks as that is what a coach tells the players each week , your in the side or your out of the side :p

Apart from the "source" (ain't they always so reliable), at no stage does the article make any mention of Buck's being at odds with the MickyD's sponsorship.

As anyone knows, unless the sponsorship is highly controversial (knock shop's etc), the club will happily welcome the income in forms of monetary help.

What do you mean 'if true'? There's absolutely nothing to suggest the partnership was ended because of health related issues. The article actually says it "came down to the sponsorship value".

OP just conjured the health concern thing from his anoos.

Bring back the Lethal style vest I say. Still have my child sized jumper version of the same.

Don't like the M logos at all, and in general they are getting out of control. Ah well, it is the way it is.

The real reason is that Bucks didn't want MM still on the shirt ;):p

Funny.

So does that mean that Maccas will be replaced by New Balance? Might explain the losing Adidas rumour.

If they blew off Maccas as a sponsor it's because they've got bigger one lined up.
Couldn't give a **** who it is as a rule as long as they paid well for it.

Where would you draw the line? What if James Hardie rocked up and wanted to sponsor us?

Agree with your point.

Given that we have a President who makes so much fuss about us standing for something, we're unlikely to accept money from just anybody who wants to throw it at us.
