im in an interesting situation where i have franklin, but if he doesnt play it mite actually be an advantage to me, albeit only a minor advantage, due to me having a bench nd some of my opponents having no emergencys, so im just gonna let it ride and im in a win win situation with the buddy issue...

The doctors gave him the all clear to go back on the ground on Friday night, but Bomber decided there was no point in risking him as the result of the game didn't mean much.

In his press conference after the game, he stated that Chapman, Kelly, Harley, Ottens and Steve Johnson will all play this week.

The guys on the Geelong board all don't mention him as playing this week but mention Stevie J, etc. Guess Thursday we will see. Hope he misses.

He has had something like 60 possies and 22 tackles in the last two weeks in the VFL, definitely deserves a call up. Whether he gets it or not is a different matter though.

HAWTHORN'S late run for finals glory was dealt a massive blow when superstar Buddy Franklin lost his challenge at the AFL Tribunal.

Franklin will miss Saturday's blockbuster against Essendon for a spot in the eight.

If the Hawks win, Franklin also will miss the Elimination Final after his appeal against a rough conduct charge was thrown out.

The Hawks were "distressed" when the tribunal deliberated for just 12 minutes before dismissing the appeal.

But the reigning premier hasn't given up on defending its title and will decide today whether to take its case to the AFL Appeals Board.

Franklin was stunned by the decision.

"Obviously I'm devastated. I'd love to be out there with the boys this weekend and the weekend after," he said.

The Hawks could have accepted a one-game ban with an early guilty plea, but their failed gamble means Franklin's season could be over even if the Hawks reach the finals.

Hawthorn football manager Mark Evans indicated the club would contest the charge for a second time, as Collingwood succeeded in doing with skipper Nick Maxwell at the start of the season.

The hearing began 30 minutes late after tribunal chairman John Hassett and jury member Wayne Schimmelbusch were late, caught in heavy traffic caused by stormy weather.

Franklin soon faced a storm of his own in a bid to clear his name.

The tribunal was told Richmond's Ben Cousins, who did not attend the hearing, suffered mild concussion in the clash, but would play against his former club, West Coast, on Friday night.

Obviously the doctors views of concussion has changed, old days concussion meant 1 week off
