if we end up with picks 2 and 4 i hope and really hope we take Butcher at 2 if Melbourne dnt at one. He looks like a gun and we need a gun FF. then with pick 4 Lucus or Morabito.

Our Forward Line in 3 years would look like this

McKinley Butcher ????
Lecrea Kennedy Ebert

Hopefully we can get a gd crumber in the forward Pocket

So far the talk is Scully and Butcher are definitely the best 2 in the draft by a distance. I think we need ball players rather than forwards, but if he is as good as every says we have to take him.

Where would Notte fit into that forward line??

Thanks to work restrictions can't see the video but a good FF would be Handy as well as another quality mid and a crumber / goal sneak but obvoiusly we will just take best available.

although I don't support (advocate) losing, 4 picks under 20 in the draft would be good but do we have 4 on the main list to go -remember Fletch and Wirra are not on the main list so they don't count.

OK, just tidied this up a bit.

Bunsen, FWIW, Underdog was responding to the OP not you, at least as far as I comprehended it.

Now carry on.

On topic, do we really need a butcher in our forwardline, surely we have enough of those already

Depends on how the other talls come on I guess.

You should forward this to the GC. Scrub out McKenzie's name though.

Not sure how you work out we would get 4 picks under 20 even if we won only 4 games. We would certainly get 2 picks inside 3 or 4 (depending on how many games Melb won) with the next pick somewhere between 19-21 depending on whether Rich and Freo won 4 games or not and the next somewhere in the 35-37 mark.
In addition to that there is the requirement to elevate Davis to main list or risk losing him as his rookie time has expired.
If the Eagles win less than 5 games I believe they will take advantage of their draft advantage and use 4 selections meaning with Davis (given they want to keep him) will mean 6 names disappearing from the squad.

Fletcher and Seaby are obvious ones as with Hunter and Spangher in the above list in the slot. Hansen would be nice but has another 2 years in contract and who will want him - whilst Staker is running out of lives. I can see the situation developing where the eagles could 'do a geelong' and basically trade a player out with no intention to actually use the resulting pick. There could be some tears.
Can anybody tell me when MacNamara's contact expires ?

If we only win four games we get 2 priority picks 1 before Round 1 and the Second before round 2 like last year.
so assuming Melbourne also only win 4 games and we finish 14th
Priority pick 1 Melbourne
Priority pick 2 Eagles
Round 1 pick 1 Melbourne
Round 1 pick 2 richmond
Round 1 pick 3 Eagles... to pick 16

Priority pick 1 Melbourne
Priority pick 2 Eagles
Round 2 pick 1 Melbourne
Round 2 pick 2 Richmond
Round 2 pick 3 Eagles

So in effect just counting numbers
its picks 2,5,18,21 which makes 4 picks oops I missed by 1 though there is no guarantee we will finish 3rd last

No sure on Jamie

You only get one priority pick, before the 2nd round if you've been crap for one year or before the 1st round if you've been crap for two years.

It's one or the other, not both.

my appoligies was mislead by happy eagles post in another thread
If we finished 14th (Richmond 15th, Melbourne 16th)

Pick 1: Melbourne - Tom Scully (Classy Midfielder)
Pick 2: West Coast - Kane Lucas (Local Midfielder)
Pick 3: Melbourne - John Butcher (Big Tall Forward)
Pick 4: Richmond - Jack Fitzpatrick (Tall Forward)
Pick 5- West Coast- Anthony Morabito (Ball Winning Midfielder)
Pick 17 - West Coast- Mitchell Duncan (Back/Forward Utility)
Pick 20 - West Coast - Lewis Jetta (Small Forward)

B: A.Smith -- D.Glass -- B.Waters
HB: Hurn -- Mackensie -- A.Selwood
C: S.Selwood - K.Lucas -- Shuey
HF: Ebert -- Kennedy -- Jetta
FF: Mckinley --Notte -- Lecras
R: Naitanui -- Masten -- Kerr

INT: Cox, M.Brown, Lynch, Cockie
EMG: Nicoski, Morabito, J.Jones

Obviously more information will come from under 18's etc.., but a similar situation to that would be awesome

IF Scully goes 1 and we got pick 2 then Butcher is a must.

I personally think that Butcher will go No1 as their are more top quality Mids then there are Kpps.

I think if they take Butcher we should stick with either Moribito, Lucas or Swallow as our first pick insted of Scully.

Any of these guys could be traded or delisted

Contracted until the end of 2009 (12):

Chad Fletcher – Signed a 3-year deal (2007, 2008, 2009) in March 2006.

David Wirrpanda – Signed a 1 year contract (2009) in October 2008.

Could trade any of these:
Contracted until the end of 2010 (5):
Tyson Stenglein – Signed a 3-year deal (2008, 2009, 2010) in June 2007.
Sam Butler – Signed a 2-year deal (2009, 2010) in April 2008.
Ben McKinley - Signed a 2-year contract (2009, 2010) in September 2008.
Brent Staker – Signed a 2-year deal (2009, 2010) in September 2008.

Could trade any of these:
Contracted until the end of 2011 (8):
Brett Jones – Signed a 3-year deal (2009, 2010, 2011) in May 2008.
Ashley Hansen - Signed a 3-year deal (2009, 2010, 2011) in May 2008.

Example Trade to clear Room:
Trade Hansen to WB for pick 80.
Trade Staker to sydney for 3rd rnd pick

That clears room on our list and they would be more likely to take them for Nothing. Exactly what Geelong did with King and Gardiner to Stk for pick 90.
Remember with the new rules you are not required to use the pick you recieve in the trade.

Swallow isn't eligible for this years draft, you can lock him in for no.1 next year though.

And if Melb make a massive blunder and take Butcher first we will definitely take Scully ahead of anyone else in this draft. Guarantee it.

This is sooo premature.

Agree, allot of Jack Watts hype trasfered directly to Butcher, lets see him turn the heat up for the U18's. Otherwise i would rather add KPD depth later in the draft.

No way will Lewis Jetta dropped as low as pick 20- he's top 10 material, and IMO a class mid rather than a small forward. Freaky skills, pace to burn, and is majestic in full flight.

What about Morobito and Lewis Jetta.Would they be good pick ups if we got them?Local boys as well.

Agreed with picking up both those boys. I'd choose Morabito over Lucas. Jetta would be an awesome wingman. As an outside midfielder we'd want to get the ball in his hands as much as Rosa gets it so he can tear off on a Peter Matera style run.

As for Scully vs Butcher; I don't mind which one we get as long as we end up getting one of them.
Butcher may give our forward line a logistics problem in that we have Tony Notte to come in at some stage.
Having Butcher at FF, Kennedy at CHF and Notte as a 3rd tall on a HFF looks pretty nice too though. Notte does well leading up the ground too, so as to having a top heavy forward line may not be that much of a problem.

Scully would add class to our already promising midfield and IMO will almost certainly be an A-Grade AFL player. Scully would complete our young midfield battery that we are putting together.

Either way if we get either one of them I'd be extremely pleased.

BTW, if available we should rookie Trevor Oliver as well.

This is sooo premature.

Our recruiting staff wouldn't consider it premature. They're on the job already.
Posting hypotheticals on a forum is never too early or too late because it doesn't change anything. It's only fans discussing the issue for their own amusement. Our recruiting staff don't factor in our opinions when selecting players to draft.

It's premature to call anybody a "must".
