Butcher a must

It's premature to call anybody a "must".

I think most posters here know of Butcher's obvious talent. The Eagles have a deficient forward line. Butcher is an obvious choice to help rectify that in the opinion of the person who created this thread and a lot of others. I find it hard to disagree with him over a need for a talented FF.
The only question for me is will Notte make it as an AFL FF and dispel our want/need for Butcher to be our FF.
There are other posters better suited to pass on information and opinions than myself to tell us whether they think Notte will make it or not. Swannies is the man for all things Swan Districts.
It's this issue I'd take into account as to who I selected between Butcher and Scully. Then again the Eagles most likely will not get that choice as Melbourne will probably have the 1st pick.

It's not premature if you think the Eagles need a FF and Notte isn't the man for the job.
I'm sure our recruiters are discussing and weighing up our needs. I'm pretty sure that they'd say Butcher and Scully are musts considering what we need to better our list. If these two are head and shoulders above the rest, how could either Butcher or Scully not be musts for any list in the AFL.

Jake Nial article on key forwards

It seems as though unless they are genuine A-Grade talls then don't bother, they won't do much as a key forward. Naitanui I think is shaping as a possible key forward, his hands are so very very good compared to last year and I HIGHLY doubt you will find a key forward with better ability to rove the spill, clean gather and either kick the goal, chase down and tackle or set up a team mate.

Great article which further highlights the need to take Butcher if available.

Imagine our future spine:

FB: MacKenzie
CHB: Brown
C: Natinui
CHF: Kennedy
FF: Butcher

I see a potential All Australian FB, Ruckman & FF

definitely want an elite full forward. Not a quality full forward or someone who will be serviceable, but a GUN full forward. Something which we have severely lacked for 10 years. Mckinley obviously wants to go home and is playing shite. Le Cras is a good small forward, and the jury is out on Notte as to whether he will make it.

Besides, even if Notte does make it, you can easily fit 2 good tall forwards in your forward line - ala Buddy and Roughead.

After seeing some of those contested marks and straight kicking, im hoping West Coast lose every game from here on out so we can take Butcher

Naitanui is in a similar position to LeCras in that LeCras could do very well in the midfield but is better and required in the FP. Naitanui too will be excellent at FF but is better and more required in the ruck.

I would love a gun, a-grade full forward too but Im not sold on Butcher yet. There is a bit of hype about him and it's important not to get caught up with that. His highlights on youtube were against a division 2 side - not exactly the best in the business (no offence). I want to see him really show something special before we start talking about top 3.

That said, if he does come on this year and show enough to suggest he's a worthy prospect I'd be happy if WCE selected him....unless Scully was available.

Surely you would back your boys to win 2 out of your last 11?

Given you have decent young talls in the fwd line I would have you pegged for a fast mid.

I agree entirely, but i think the point is that if Butcher has proven that he is the next best player (behind Scully) and is the best available at that pick, it would be foolish not to take him. It would be like turning down Riewoldt because we already have Hansen and Kennedy at CHF.
