Looks like it is definitely the end for Brodie Holland. I heard from someone who works inside the club that he has broken his wrist/hand. Don't know if anyone else has mentioned it on here yet, but thought I'd let you guys know anyway. Disappointing end though.

Terrible news for Brodes, he must be feeling very deflated after such a determined effort to get back to match fitness. :(

Heard the same news Saturday night...terrible news for Brodie and it probably spells the end for him. Ever since his achilles' started playing up a couple of years ago he lost a few yards of pace and hasn't been able to keep up.

That's a shame...he looked to be coming good in the Geelong VFL match, did some good things, and I thought he could make into the side before seasons end. Gave his all when played...hope he stays around the club.

Gee we're going to have some room in the salary cap if he goes along with some others (Presti, Wakes, Johnson?, Shaw(s)...)

that is shocking luck if true, on top of his terrible run of injury. Must be incredibly frustrating and enfuriating. Ah well gotta roll with the punches I spose and move on. I wouldn't totally rule him out, or may get a one-year with like GC17 or someone. They might give them a player like that "free" (ie as a veteran or something not on the main list). For example, any veterans that are not picked up by anyone else, the new teams could maybe have for a year or 2 as extra players not included on their player quota - considering there's little chance of them getting a ship in the first 2 or 3 years anyway, and it'd give them a valuable headstart of experience and attitude.

Terrible luck for Brodie.
I would have liked to see him play his last game in the AFL side and get the send off he deserved. A great servant to our club.

I'd keep him next year. There are a few that aren't as good so their relative youth is irrelevant. Holland would be a good depth player in a position we are thin.

The problem is the achilles is still very suspect - if not for this setvack, it could have been put to the test in the last few games - but now they may not want to take that risk at the drafts. Maybe they can still put him through some rigorous game simulations before the drafts.

You said the same about Lonie last year. You're a bit of a softie in this regard. We need to give the kids time and move the older players out, ESPECIALLY if they have long term injuries.

Time to go, Brodie. If any older player needs to be kept, I'd rather it be Presti.

I probably did say the same about Lonie. I probably over rate him. More than anything I think we have enough players to trade and/or delist as it is. Presti has to stay. Give him the summer. Wakelin will retire and if he doesn’t he should be pushed. Lonie has had his time. I don’t think Cook, Iles, Toovey and a few others can be as good as Holland next year or ever and on that basis I’d offload them first. A lot depends on trade week though.

Youth policy is best. Toovey can become a real hardnut in our team, Cook an all round running type, and Iles an inside magnet type.

I'd prefer these blokes getting a go in front of R Shaw and Johnson, and to a lesser extent in front of O'Bree, who is nearing the end too. These guys have had their day.

I would not want to see any our young mids delisted - Egan the only probable exception.

Another year will sort the wheat from the chaff. If Barham McArthy Dick Wellingham and Stanley pass by Cook Iles and Toovey, then we can let some of them go at the end of 2009.
