I might be getting Cable Internet but 1st i gotta know: Whats the best and cheapest cable provider.

None of them as both have facist like 3GB monthly caps now

Get ADSL if you can as after your contract period is up you'll have an ADSL modem and you can shop around with other providers while you don't have that choice with a cable modem

Netspace or Internode ADSL is the best

My family has Optus Cable with 4 computers sharing the cable and not once going over the download cap. Sure we primariliy use it for browsing but occasionally we do download huge files.
We got it when it was $75.95 a month after being screwed by ihug.

Now i believe it is much cheaper and believe me, you wil not be disappointed:D

you'll enjoy the speed, but you'll find the 3gb isn't enough.

There are other adsl plans out there which are better. I've got Telstra cable, and i don't download warez and i still manage to push the 3gb limit very closely.

I've got iinet ADSL, it is super fast and reliable, I love it but the only problem is the download cap, I only get 1 gig during peak hours and 2 gig offpeak, I always go over my 1 gig but because offpeak is midnight-7am I never download half, it should be the other way around I think (2 gig peak, 1 gig offpeak). :)

I'm getting ADSL over here in WA with iinet in about 2 weeks. You have a 3 gb download limit but offpeak downloads between 12am and 7am don't count towards your limit, it seems like the best deal I've seen around for a while. I don't know if it's available interstate though. Once you go over your limit for peak periods, rather than having to pay extra the speed will be limited to 56k modem speeds, but remain at ADSL speeds for off-peak times.

Surely the 3gb limits imposed by both Telstra and Optus are against all pro-competition laws? I would really be interested to hear the ACCC's view on this.

IMO it'll only be a matter of time before the caps go, especially if a 3rd provider enters the market.

Bloody sucks though, doesn't it?

3GB is plenty.. i went dl crazy over a week and downloaded just under 1GB so yeah.. and Telstra is crappy..
