Still cannot fathom why he was signed up for 3 years. Last night was a game in which he should have competed and at least negated Charman/McDonald but he did neither; did not COMPETE.

Who do you see filling the void between now and then?

McLaren will be delisted, Hampson won't be ready in two, and Aisake and Jacobs may not make it.

He fills a spot that means a kid doesn't get flogged. End of story.

Before you say that's not a good enough reason to have signed him and given him three years, present me with the options at the end of last year that don't involve magically going back in time and "developing our own".

Who knows Effes.
For all we know, he could be carrying an injury that we don't know about.

I thought he was OK - he did pretty well at stoppages around the ground - using his body well to nudge out the opposition. Unfortunately you can't do that at centre-square ball-ups. Short ruckmen are always going to struggle against giants like McDonald in the middle.

As a philosopher once said, "a man's got to know his limitations".

He'd been just OK in recent weeks but last night was pathetic

Yes he is undersized and I didn't agree with drafting him but surely we can expect him to actually have a go. He did not have a go last night, it was an insipid performance and another indicment on our list management. The 3 year deal makes it hurt even more.

HAVE A GO CAIN

3 years. What a joke.
Choice?
Would you prefer to risk the chance of one of our young guys confidence being shattered and losing a potentially good ruck, or let Cain take the beatings for a while?

Are you willing to bring in Hampson or Aisake and have them exposed to the same level of criticism that kennedy receives if they don't perform.

Re-read post 201.

And yes Effes, he needs to compete, but after the game Grant Thomas was saying that Cain was a lot of work to get himup for games........a LOT of work.
He will have off weeks, and some o.k. ones.....I really hope these kids develop soon.

I know where your coming from, and it's a good point but it's so frustrating watching him put out performances like that, knowing that he'll be on our list til the end of 2009. Honestly, I'm sure we could have traded for a mature ruckman around Ackland's ability (or better, if we were willing to put something or someone tempting up for trade) without being forced to sign a three year deal to someone who clearly doesn't deserve it.

Players have to agree to a trade.
They weren't exactly queing up to join us last year...........win a few more games this year and that might just change a little.

It was either Clarke, Gardiner or Ackland.

Gardiner hasn't got 10 ft from hospital without re-injury, Clark was a 1-2 year prospect and retiring - only came out for the chance at a flag (:o).

We took Cloke, and that was successful until his injury. Was the number 1 ruck.
McLaren will depart, leaving only 2 seasoned rucks at the club, one of those is injury prone.
Like it or not we need Ackland until we either trade for another ruck, or develope our own (at least another two years away). # years was probably about right, and if the final year is served as a depth player playing in the reserves then so be it. We should be so lucky.

Bump

Some decision that was :D
